Rolex Daytona dials

Can you change dials from black to white? Not sure which Daytona to buy and wondering if dials can be bought separately and interchanged like other Rolex's.

Yes you can. I think that Rolex will change it for a smaal charge to the AD.
If its done within a certain period of time.

To answer your question, I think it is possible to change dials but service centres in some countries seem to allow it whilst others do not. Rolex UK have changed dials for me (not on Daytona) and I have seen posts from guys who have swapped. Also, you sometimes see dials and hand-sets for sale on ebay.

I assume you are talking about a new watch? If you are talking about an older (pre-2000) model. You may have more problems sourcing a dial as these used a different movement to the current model.

Perhaps you could let us have a little more info?

Never say no to a Daytona, whatever dial it has.

As stated, most AD's will offer a dial exchange for free within the first year (at least my AD offered me this).

Yes, this is my first post as I have just discovered this sight.
My name is Danny from Dallas Texas and while I do not have a collection I have owned several Rolex watches over time. (Submariner, Datejust). I have not owned a Rolex in a while and have been eyeing the SS Daytona for a couple of months. I passed on a couple and regretted it especially when the price increase hit. I now have a chance at a 2005 SS black dial w/box but no papers for $10k. While I originally wanted the white dial I the black dial is growing on me. With all this being said I thought it might be nice to have a black and white dial to change out periodically but not sure if that is possible. Regards to all!

Hi Danny and thanks for the extra information.

Any Daytona for $10K seems like a good idea. I would buy it and then see how you feel about the dial. If you want to change it you should be able to get it done without too much trouble. Not too sure about changing back and forth periodically. Unless you know a friendly watchmaker, I wouldn't advise it.

BTW, the lack of papers is easily fixed once you send it for a service you will get a service paper which is as good as the original papers. Booklets etc are generally available anyway.

I have always wondered this also, on ebay I saw my exact same TT Daytona M Series, but with the paul newman champagne / black dials/ red arrow dial. It looks amazing, I always wondered if I could get my white dial changed to that. The paul newman dial is quite unique.

Welcome to TRF Danny. $10K for a Daytona sounds really good. If the US RSC won't do it, I know that there are watchmakers out there that will. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have the same question about the "Newman" style dial on the TT version of the daytona. I just love it and it happens to be the watch I am currently looking for. I have spoken to a few folks that informed me that the "Newman" dials were only available on the full 18K versions of the Daytona. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this information?

I have seen TT Daytonas with that dial on sale new in Japan.

While all versions of the Daytona with contrasting registers have become 'known' as Paul Newmans, some would argue that the only true Paul Newman models are described as follows: The 6239 and 6241 case numbers, manual wind, stainless steel non-Oyster cases, non-screw-down pushers, and pre-Triplock crown, with either the black dial with white registers, or the cream white dial with black registers--featuring square markers and crossed subdials.

Tools is correct. They are not true "Newman" dials. Call the dials anything you want but to me they are just plain breathtaking. Here is the watch I am after. Sexy isn't she?

Yes, but it does not specify if the TT version is included in this rule since it technically is a partially yellow gold model. That statement may mean that the dials are not available on the SS and WG models. Which would make sense. There have been a few people claiming that they have purchased and or seen new, factory original TT Daytonas with these dials. I am trying to confirm this from Rolex.

They might swap the dial but they won't let you keep both of them. They don't want genuine Rolex parts floating around!
