Where to buy a rolex?
Hi,
I am going to buy a watch for the first time in my life and i thought the best way to start was with a rolex! Where shall i buy my rolex? I went to official dealers but also non official one. I also checked prices on internet. My choice would go for a non-official dealer: I can see the watch and it is cheaper than in an official dealer. I am waiting for advise. Please let me know what do you think and why. Thank you in advance. |

If you are looking for a brand new watch, get it from a authorized AD. Yes, you will pay a bit more, but that extra cash is peace of mind.

Unless you know exactly what to look for in order not to be scammed, better go for an official AD deal! Welcome to TRF!

YES YES YES if you are going to buy a Rolex as your first watch you want to make sure that you are happy with it and the best way to do that is thru an AD. I can give you some hints though. It takes a little longer but can sure save in the long run. PM me if you want.

Rolex is one of the most copied brands in the world, so given you are not an expert, I would go with the AD. Yes, it will cost you a bit more, but at least you will have confidence you have purchased the genuine article.

You could be Buying a fake or damn good replica if it's not from an AD!
Dont risk it, if you cannot tell the differance, I am Rolex mad for at least 25 years and know a lot, but I have seen replicas that made my head spin and accepted them as the real thing! |

ok, thanks a lot for your advice. It is about a $1000 dollars more expensive between official and non-offcial for the explorer1. And so far i have not found any milgauss in official dealer. I understood after few weeks that the Milgauss is difficult to find but in unoffcial dealer they could get it pretty easily...
Are there differences in prices between official AD's? Do you have any idea how or where i could find the milgauss in an official dealer in chicago or nearby? |

Jcay,
Welcome to the forum you made a great choice to buy a Rolex. I would be very careful with any dealings from a non-authorized Rolex dealer(s). You never know what you are going to get. This forum has many tales of people buying used Rolex getting ripped off, buying Franken watches (Rolex watches make up of a collection of Rolex parts.) buying fake Rolex watches or watches that were not up to Rolex standards. If you buy from an authorized Rolex dealer you get the peace of mind that you have a two year warrantee from Rolex not some guy/gal who sales Rolex used as a non-dealer who can not give your Rolex the service that Rolex demands should your Rolex require it. Rolex warrantees are not transferable to anyone but the original purchaser. You may save a little money but in the long run do you want a Rolex you know nothing about? Or a new Rolex with you as the sole owner who can guarantee nothing unethical has occurred with the watch? In the long run you must do what is best for you good luck when you buy your Rolex please post a few photos.

Save longer if you must but buy your new watch from an Authorized Distributer (AD).

Also you can try the sales forums on this board, I have seen some really good
deals there, or post what your looking for and your price range. Just ask for lots of referals. There is a lot of good honest people here that will help you out. And welcome to the forums |

I prefer ADs, but the recent price hike is making me think twice. If you are still unfamiliar with Rolex, it's best to have ease of mind and buy from AD. Some ADs are more willing to discount than others, and you just have to pound the pavement finding one. Also, a few members here can refer you to ADs that are willing to ship the watch to you out of state, saving you on tax.
Lastly, if you want decent discounts, look at Alan Furman and Swiss Luxury on the web. Buying from non-ADs will void the warranty, which is good for 2 years. After 2 years, it does not matter since everyone pays for Rolex service.

I bought from an AD and I paid about list. I have just sceen too many fakes and didn't want to take a chance. Maybe I'll be a little more daring for my 2nd one.

J,
Welcome to TRF! As one who has only purchased "preloved" Rolex watches with great success I have to agree with everyone here. If it's your first Rolex paying more at an AD is money well spent. Rolex makes about 800,000 watches per year. 5 million fake Rolex watches are made each year as well. Good luck and keep us posted, dP
