Skiing Yesterday
I went to Mont Ste. Marie up in the Laurentians and while it's only 1,100 vertical feet, it's the best within an hour's drive and I had a blast.
It was snowing hard all day, which meant a fresh base of powder on each run. Very, NICE! I ski on Atomic Betaride 10.20 skis (known as Le Grande Orange, because yes, they are ORANGE!). But they're an amazing all-mountain ski and at 190cm, with the big shape on them, they're the equivalent of 220cm skis in the old (straight ski) days. In a word, they are FAST! But I tested a pair of skis that are just AMAZING for an all mountain ski that can do anything, go anywhere. The Atomic Supercross SX B5. This ski allows you to crack multiple fast turns and also carve deep into sheer ice at warp 10! These are definitely my next skis. But at $1800 a pair, they ain't cheap. Um... maybe in a year or two. I still love my big orange boards! My quadricepts are aching today. I feel like I rode a hard 100km on the bike yesterday. But it was an awesome day on the slopes! Sounds like a good day. I feel your pain with the sore quads, from a bilking point of view, that is. Whenever I try to ski a unexplainable force of nature comes into play. I am somehow chemically drawn to trees, any trees, all trees, no matter where they are on the slope or how far away from them I begin (ouch)

There's a resort an hour south of Montreal called Mont Sutton, and 60% (I think) of their runs are glades. I love it there! |

I think I'll stick with the bike. With this Unity Tour coming up in May I need to Besides, I would look awfully silly skiing with hockey equipment, which is at the very least what I would need if I tried what you did.

BTW, wore the ski helmet for the first time yesterday and it was really comfortable and warm! First time I've ever skied while wearing goggles and NOT gotten a headache. The goggle band is always too tight around my giant craniam. Now that problem is solved. |
