116200 DJ-Black Arabic/concentric dial vrs White Milgauss

Hi All

Would really like to seek you advice on this one...

This weekend I was in a jewelers and noticed that they still had some Rolex stock left after they had lost their remit to sell...included here was a yachtmaster blue dial, white Milgauss and several DJ's (36mm) versions - along with a newer white gold DJ2...

When I inquired, the YT (which I was after) had already been sold - owner was picking up that day - but the Milgauss and DJs were still for sale..as well as a platinum ladies YT (29mm)..

My girlfriend who was with me, said that she would like to try the YT on, while I tried both the Milguass and various DJs on...funnily enough, I found that the 11620 black arabic numbers/concentric dial on oyster bracelet looked better on me than the white faced Milgauss - which looked much larger than I remembered (used to own a Milgauss GV but sold to help fund something else) and the DJ looked just right - which surprised me at 36mm (my wrist is 7inch exactly and fairly flat) as I normally wear between 38mm to 42mm - 40mm being my 'sweet spot'...

Anyway, we left the shop having bought both the DJ and the YT in platinum...and very happy to have have received a discount on the purchase :-)

However, when I got home later that evening and tried the DJ on, it suddenly looked very small on my wrist with a tiny crown - and this has made me reconsider my purchase - even though I like the watch...

Having contacted the jeweler, they confirmed that they are happy to change if I want but that the only men's rolex watches they have left that are over 36mm is the white Milgauss, the DJ2 white gold (which I did not like) or a white gold Daytonna - slate face and red hands - (which I do like but is a bit outside my price range at present)...and obviously they are not getting anymore in...

So, I am trying to understand why I feel this watch is too small now - when I didn't in the shop and preferred it over the white Milgauss - and whether this its just a case of getting used to the smaller sized DJ - as most of my watches are in the 38-42mm size....or whether I should change and go for the white milgauss..even though I have had the GV already..

For ref - I do own a ceramic Sub date and love this watch...

Can any DJ and Milguass owners give help with any thoughts on the above please? :-)

All help gratefully received...

polished lug and center link oyster DJ wears chunkier than the nonpolished 36mm DJ's-- sort of like how the president DD wears very chunky for a 36mm. unless you have herman munster sized wrist/arm, i say go with the DJ it's awesome and is counter to the trend of huge watches which is already tired.

I am confused by your post.
How can it be 'just right' and within the same day look 'very small'?

I remember when I wore big oversized watches the DJ36 looked very small.
However, I never sold them and after some time I got bored and fed up with the wall clock watches and started wearing the normal size watches again.
I gradually went back from 44 to 41.5. The move from 41.5 to 40 was easy.
And once you realize the 36 and 40 mm Rolex have the same dial diameter (only the bezel is larger on the 40mm) it was very easy to adjust back to 36mm.

Today 36mm is my favorite size and although I still wear 40mm from time to time my 'go to' watches are all 36mm.

Maybe you need a couple of days to re-adjust to 36 ? Still don't understand why it looked 'just right' at the jeweler.

My watch on a 6.5 wrist.

Hit the nail on the head :-) That's just it...I can't understand it either , and the watch looked stunning in the jewelers....I think you could be right about the adjustment time required here :-) And thank you for posting your watch and your thoughts for me - stunning looking watch on your wrist :-)

Size of the 36mm crystal isn't too different from any of the 40mm Rolex sports watches. The bezel and crown are the major differences and for me the 36mm is in proportion more than the 41mm with stick markers ( I flipped my blue lume stick marker DUI and I've just got an Arabic 41mm djii instead ). My 36mm doesntlook small on my 7" wrists and actually the fact it's lighter and the bracelet slightly smaller makes it really comfortable watch.

Got you, thank you for replying to my post - yes, agree when I tried it on originally it felt much more comfortable than the Milgauss and more balanced on my wrist....agree, the watch on your wrist looks perfect - not too big nor small...I will have to take a pic of mine for comparison :-)

Some pictures of my new DJ on my 7inch wrist-interesting to see that a pic taken with my iPad of my wrist makes the watch, at 36mm, look just right for my wrist but the shot in the mirror makes it look smaller... weird..

Well, at the risk of a pun, it appears size does matter...in the fact that I had to get used to wearing a smaller size - and I must admit that I am rather smitten by this watch - its the right size, very comfortable and legible with the Arabic numbers....and the black concentric dial is mesmerizing...in some light it is black..in others a dark chocolate brown...

My DJ makes a great everyday wearer...when I went back to the jewelers that I got it from (my girlfriends YTM had a ding on it when she took the plastic off the watch - so we had to go back to get it exchanged for a new one - great service by the way), the manager tempted me with a white gold Daytona (Arabic, slate grey, dial) that they had for sale at £25K...even offered to drop it down to £18K, as it was a shop window version with some small hairlines on the bezel...as much as I was tempted (and I was very much so, as I really like the Daytona-especially white face/steel), I still stayed with the DJ...so much easier to wear and sublime...

So, thank you all for giving me some context/advice on this purchase

I had that exact watch. Loved the dial but found that due to the size, I was wearing it less and less. Just sold it.

Happy ending !

My real love affair with the DJ line started in a similar way. Couldn't pas up a 'great deal' and that watch (picture above) became my every day watch and love it more and more.

Last April I bought an other DJ and there is more to come.
Nothing beats a DJ36 for small to normal sized wrists imo.

A shame as the wrist shot you posted shows it to be perfect for you.
