Greetings Trfers. What defines a watch as "vintage"? In your opinion? I'm inclined to go with anything from and before the lugholes era (barring the late great 14060m, obviously!), but could it be plexiglass? Tritium? Is there a specific age a watch has to be, like at one point how antiques had to be over a century old to be "Antique"? Apologies if this is in the wrong section. I just thought that since "Vintage" seems to be largely subjective there might be a broader range of opinions here.

I would use it to describe watches which are no longer in manufacturing and have characteristics which are no longer being produced. Plexi, lug holes, tritium, radium, styles, and combinations.

Generally, I think of something two generations prior to the current generation as vintage. For example, I think of the 14060M as a modern watch and the 5513 (and earlier) as vintage.

Four digit reference, tritium and plexi is a common definition but for many a 16750 would be vintage, or a 16660. Some consider minimum of 30 years old or more.

Personally I don't think being a discontinued model in itself makes a watch vintage although it may be a classic (for example 16710, 14060).

My thoughts are that vintage would be 30 years old with tritium but ask the next person and they will have a different take. Whichever way you look at it, collecting old models with a great heritage is pretty awesome

This topic comes up every now and again. 25 or 30 years is what some people will say, others will say an acrylic crystal defines a vintage piece. For Rolex, some people like landrover only consider 4-digit serial numbers vintage. Vintage just means old to me.

For me Rolex ended is production in 1988.
So the last Rolex is 16520 steel R series Daytona

I put in terms of music. Classic Rock doesn't evolve. It has a start date and end date. With watches it would seem to be antique, vintage and collectable.
Antique 50-100 years. Vintage 20-30 years(I prefer 30plus and 4 model numbers when it comes to Rolex). Then there is collectable which can be on the verge of vintage or models no longer in production or where made in very limited numbers.
