I like the wooden boxes but haven't seen any others that caught my eye. Not that they couldn't produce something nice for not much money.

What is the part # on the bottom of your wave box? Yours looks like it may be like my F-series (~2004) Daytona that came with a #31.00.64 wave box that's 7" x 5" x 3". Does anyone know if this is the medium or large size of the three? I don't know if this is the original box, as I didn't buy the watch new, but the package lacks an outer box and I'm having trouble finding one in this size. All those I find on Ebay are the smaller size.

BTW, I bought a smaller outer box (6 3/8" x 4 7/8" x 3 3/8") on Ebay before I knew there was more than one size.

Like most have said, I would have stored the boxes in the cabinet, and probably won't look at it until the next watch I buy where I need to go back to the cabinet again. I probably admire all the boxes for like 3 minutes together with the new box, and probably that's it.

This seems to me to be uncharacteristic for Rolex, famous for meticulous detail. Have I got it wrong? Went back to the dealer and she explained how there are three different size boxes and how they are assigned base on features on the watch. Anyway, she swapped out my small box for the medium box so now I am happy.

My question to members, did you get a small box? Does it meet your expectations for Rolex?
Who cares -- honestly...? Not me, I sold my box. I rather Rolex not waste their time creating fancier boxes so I can decide the size/design of the box somehow justifies the amount of money I just spent.

It's just an excuse Rolex needs to raise prices.

Good point!

Interesting. I've never stopped to think whether my boxes are the correct size. Is there somewhere that lists what size or type of box is supposed to come with which model?

The same for my 16523. Very nice mahogany box, more than capable to contain watch, papers and a lot more.

My Daytona came in the smallest of these boxes pictured. I believe the middle one was the YMII and the largest the DDII.

Just because the opinion of others may not necessarily be the same as yours is no reason to cast a negative view upon them. To some the packaging is almost as important as the watch itself.

Regardless of whether you could or couldn't care less the box should be able to hold the paperwork in the space provided. In the small box it does not. It's the principle of the thing, right? The Tudor boxes are much nicer by the way. Go figure.

at 800,000 watches a year, it makes sense, shipping-wise, to keep things small & simple.

The boxes are important to me. I use them daily. I also got a smaller box with SubC and I returned it for regular size box.

Personally don't care too much about the box--but do find it strange that a premium product such as Rolex seems to have what amounts to "non-premium" packaging.

In the past few years Omega and Breitling watches that I have purchased came in much nicer boxes than Rolex.

I'm reminded much of Apple's philosophy that the packaging was integral with the design and if you sell a premium product put it in premium packaging. The first ipod, iphone, ipad boxes were all more designed to connect that this was better product in the box--dimple on box for iphone home button, etc...

just my experience, I thought, "the nicer the watch the smaller the box."
My Rolex box could fit inside my Omega box, that could fit inside my TAG box.
Then I saw the Patek, Nautilus comes in a plastic bag, so it seems to uphold my hypothesis.

The box is dinky because Rolex wants you to wear the watch and not keep it in the box...

Well, I'm surprised by the volume of response to my inquiry. I see a lot of members don't care about the box, and I see their point - you don't wear the box. I'm new to Rolex, and so that means I have a lot to learn, and it also means I'm seeing the brand with fresh perspective and little preconceived notion about it. The packaging is part of the total customer experience of the brand - no argument about that. Some claim it matters little (at least for them). It's seems that Rolex agrees that this facet of customer experience matters less and less, as the quality and value of the boxes diminishes over the years.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to care about the box. I am just pointing out the incongruity, that the Rolex brand stands for superlative design, craftmanship and attention to detail and then to deliver the box that falls short of that ideal.
