Caseback removal?

How many of you have actually removed the caseback just to have a peak at the movement. Probably not recommended though. But I am sure some have been curious.

Not worth risking the water resistance.

Curiosity such as this can lead to unhappy moments.

I replaced the case back on my GMT with a clear back from TP and also removed the back on my old DJ to check the seal. Both subsequently passed a low pressure test which was good enough for me on those models.

Eddie was kind enough to show us the movement in his watch and you can rest assured that yours looks pretty much the same.

It's just not worth the risk in my judgement.

Caseback removal?

I'll be purchasing a pressure tester just so I can remove the caseback and play around with my watches. I also have several watchmaking tools and will be practicing on ETA movements from the TZ courses. Can't wait to begin. No fear!

Just cannot see any point in removing any case-back on any watch unless the movement has a fault..The Rolex movement is quite plain Jane to look at plus there are hundreds of pictures on forum plus the net.And to open the case-back on a Rolex is just like unscrewing a pot of jam.And if you have the correct tool its quite easy to do and not rocket science.

When buying a used watch, always good to authenticate thoroughly by viewing the movement!

I wouldn't chance it either.

This.

Orrrr just have your watchmaker snap pics of the movement for you. Mine did. Not an unusual request at all

I have had more difficulty opening pots of jam.

Have to agree but my watchmaker friend did have a problem with one Rolex he told me once. But that watch had not been serviced in 20 plus years and the threads fused. But with a bit of extra brute force, case in his vice, he did get it open with not too much case damaged.
