anyone seen the rose gold 149 yet? it's gorgeous
I went to the store 2 days ago to send my pen for service, and the salesgirl offered to show a new 149 they had recently got.....
rose gold nib and rose gold trim on black resin body....! The nib is uni-tone : rose gold and does not have the rhodium plating.... IMO, it was a gorgeous pen! Anyone else check it out yet? I use fountain pens only at home and have no real need for a new one since i already have a few.....but i am :bang head: Any opinions...? |

Hesitant to get one as rose gold is plated onto the 18k gold furniture. I have had very bad experience with my Omas rose gold (the plated rose gold on the nib got flaked off, completely exposing the gold nib)
Also, I've heard similar horror stories with the 75th Limited Edition 149. I'll be waiting for a while to see if the new 90th edition has the same issue before getting one. |

Wait, did you say that rose gold is platted and the nib is not really solid gold?

Where did I say the nib is not gold??? Read my post carefully please. Sorry I don't have patience with people who doesn't read things properly.
Nib is 18K yellow gold. The rose gold is plated on top of the 18k yellow gold. So, maybe you want to check with the boutique if the rose gold nib is plated on top of yellow gold or the whole nib is rose gold 18K. P.S. What's "solid gold"? 100% gold or you accept impurities e.g. 75% gold + other alloys? And of course the nib is never "solid gold". It's an alloy mate! |

Thanks for the response 2careless. I meant to convey the spirit and not get carried away with the technicalities of language, grammar and sentence structure.
My original understanding was that the nib was actually made of solid 18k Rose gold "alloy" and not platted. Seeing your comment that the rose gold is platted on 18k yellow gold was a shocker, and hence the tone of my last message. My apologies if it hurt your feelings, as that was never my intent. I appreciate being here and learning from more the experienced people. All i wanted to do was ask everyone here about it and I am very glad i am doing it. I totally agree with you that platting on the nib is totally impractical. The fountain pen nibs are supposed to flex and contract as we write with them. Having a platting will eventually flake off. After reading your comments I did however try to verify my understanding and there seems to be a lot of contradictory information available online: some sources say that the rose gold is platted, others say that the nib is solid 18k rose gold. MontBlanc's site however does say that the it's solid rose gold (details section). Since I am totally confused now, I will walk down to Maiden Lane tomorrow and check with the boutique. http://www.montblanc.com/en-us/shop/...en-111062.aspx http://www.fahrneyspens.com/Item--i-111066S http://fpgeeks.com/2014/03/on-the-ra...-fountain-pen/ |

Man Vron, let us know, I bought a 149 Rose Gold Fountain pen too..... Hope it is not plated on the nib. The staff at the boutique told me that it was made of solid rose gold. Then again I think its too late for a refund.
I will ask again when I pick up my pen. I sent it in as the nib was scratchy, ironically my W Germany 149 which is also a Fountain pen, writes smoother. Hopefully this will be rectified when its sent back from service. Btw how do you reject pple who want to use your fountain pen? Normally most people are used to ballpoints and the same amount of pressure exerted will cause the nib to bend considerably. Sorry to digress. |

Please have a careful look at the Montblanc site you posted Vron. The details are very confusing!!!!
In the presentation section for the pen, it states "the anniversary edition comes with red gold plating" whilst in the details section it states it is "hand-crafted Au750 / 18 K red gold nib". You can understand where 2careless got the impression the nib was plated |

So i used my lunch yesterday to walk down to the MontBlanc boutique on Maiden lane and showed the confusing website details to the manager there.
He assured that on the fountainpens the Nibs are solid 18k rosegold and not platted. The clip and rings are rose gold platted. He also assured that he will inform MB's webmasters and webcontent folks to review the language on their website and make it less confusing...! |

Simple, just politely explain to others that with nibs being touchy and easily damaged(due to too much pressure applied) that you do not allow others to use them. At least this is what I do...others may have other ideas.....

MB previously released a 75th limited edition 149, it's with rose gold furniture and a rose gold tone nib. See this post in FPN.
http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/fo...-149-75th-ltd/ I have one such 149 and I'm so afraid in using it just in case the plating gets flaked off like my Omas rose gold did. It's currently in the bank vault gathering rust. So, I would not be shocked if the new 90th edition's rose gold is plated, and if that's the case, I won't buy one, simple. @Steve and Leo, I'm fine, just overwhelmed with work... :-( |

Do you think Montblanc will supply this pen in BBBO (triple broad oblique) if asked?

MB has a "bespoke nib service" available at some boutiques and you can even get a music nib created for you (of course you pay through the nose for it). Guess the Melbourne boutique does not qualify...

Thx Leo. A colleague wanted to take a look. I was ok with a look at my new 146 fp rose gold pen. To my horror she wrote with it. The nib was scratchy after. Luckily Mb agreed to change a new nib. As we are speaking the pen is at the service centre.

Hi Kai
I will order this pen through Monards. They are great Only thing is I don't know how long to wait before this pen comes to Australia On the other hand I could just get this one and pocket the difference: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/149-Limit.../271522462655?

I also like Monards as they are good people to deal with and go the extra mile.

I went to the Singapore MB Boutique today.
They told me the nib on the 90th Edition 149 is 100% Rose Gold. They also informed me that the clip & rings are RG plated. So perhaps this is where the confusion arises. The total cost for the 149 RG 90th edition is SG$1180 including custom BBBO nib. I don't know about other countries but here in Singapore there is no extra cost for the BBBO nib replacement as long as you do it within 6 weeks of purchase of the pen
