Rolex Sapphire Crystal
Ok I really like the look of the painted lumes on the 5513 style submariners. I find their size and shape much preferable to the lumes on the 14060.
Does any submariner exist that had the painted tritium lumes, and a sapphire crystal? Date or no date would be fine. Should I just get the vintage piece and baby the plastic crystal? Or does the polish compounds really work? anyway, in my mind this would be my dream watch. Pure class, style and durability. Does it exist!? |

Don't sweat the plexi it is more hardy than folk give it credit. If it's definitely a sapphire crystal your after then maybe an early 16660 may fit the bill.

That lume you like looks much better under acrylic than under sapphire. And yes, Polywatch works very well.

I had a plexi DJ for 20 years and I'm tough on a watch. A few minor scratches, but nothing that bothered me. I prefer sapphire, but the plexi was fine.

Go with plexi, and you don't need to baby it.

I had a 5513 for several years and the plexi. does scratch easily.
Brasso and Polywatch works and your AD will probably polish it for free. I also had a 1970 DJ with a gold dial which didn't show scratches but I did manage to crack it. |
