Curious, any members get ridiculed by family members for their Rolexes?

I dread my wife's family get-together every summer. The trouble begins when we sit down for dinner and my two brothers-in-law begin broadcasting to all in attendance how much they thought I paid for my Rolex watch. It only goes downhill from there. (I never drive my Porsche there anymore after my brother-in-law thought it was funny to fart in my new car; he is 45 years old) anyway, I wondered if I was the only one to endure such beaver poo?

My brothers know Rolexes but never mention them. They are too busy trying to get at the family money.

Otherwise they literally start to give me sad stories of how difficult their life is hoping I'd help them financially

All my 8 uncles and aunts

My cousins leave me alone

F that... My response... I wear them because I can, and I enjoy them. If they give you shit and can't appreciate that, I'd do a burnout with my Porsche in the driveway

Don't sweat the small stuff you'd be punching too far below your weight.

Had a idiot friend do that in a car I had. He never rode in it again

I get a lot of stick for 'wasting money' in watches but i guess some people just don't understand!

Watches especially Rolex are:

1) Fantastic at keeping their prices (re-sale value)
2) Aesthetically pleasing to any eye
3) A story...a milestone in ones life.
4) An excellent heirloom.
5) Innovative

I don't wear a Rolex for anyone but myself

So I really don't care, life's to short to worry about the small
Stuff, and I belive this qualifies

My family gives me more of a hard time about being a watch geek. They are happy I'm happy though.

As for them broadcasting how much they think you paid, keep repeating " way more than that"

Happens to me all the time, it happened at my wedding reception ... I just have learned to ignore it ... for some it's a joke so I join it, but for some of my family its a "hey you are wasting money" type thing so I just ignore them. I just find it entertaining that the family members who make the largest fuss are the ones who spend just as much as I do on watches on shoes/clothes etc. They feel I should be helping them with their finances instead of buying these watches, I offer to help them as soon as they sell their Louis V. bags, 10 pair's of sneakers, and down grade their BMW/Benz to something simpler, until then, its not my problem.

Tell your two brothers-in-law you had a great year, and are going to buy them each a new one. That may shut them up!

Testament to the fact that no matter how old or accomplished one becomes, there's always still a laugh to be had in ripping one.

Mother in law gives me grief so being so "spendy" but then again she gives me grief about everything else too. I think next time she comes to visit I will have these two on display right in the middle of the dinner table...

i suppose if they're just out to nitpick, let the watch take the hit... better than complaining about your hair or job

It's jealousy, pure and simple.

My family doesn't give me a ration about anything, I'm fortunate in that way. The last Rolex I bought myself, my friends - every single one of them - said "Good for you, you haven't done anything for yourself in a while."

I got good people around me.
