I agree that people can be jealous and it's worse coming from family members because there is really no censorship to what they say to you. It's worse when one of your family members thinks they are the richest and you come strolling in with more and better Rolexes.

If the interest you earn on your pot of money is more than the annual salary of the average American, you would be "wealthy" IMHO.

P.S. My family knows I have a Rolex but they don't say anything to me about it.

Watches especially Rolex are:

1) Fantastic at keeping their prices (re-sale value)
2) Aesthetically pleasing to any eye
3) A story...a milestone in ones life.
4) An excellent heirloom.
5) Innovative
Agreed... but you forgot 1:

6) Great for telling time

Median income in the US is about $50k. So you'd need between $500k to $1M in investments to earn that much back per year. IMHO that's hardly enough (annual income or savings) to live "wealthy".

If it is your first Rolex and the relatives are really bothering you then I would walk right up to them and sing at the top of my lungs -

Haven't had a dream in a long time
See, the life I've had
Can make a good man bad

So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time
