What's To Become Of Tudor ???
Since Swatch decided to no longer produce ETA ebauchs for other companies such as Tudor, and ETA's "agreement" to continue only until 2010 is looming, this has got to get those watch companies who use them thinking..
Rolex is not one to sit around when it comes to their products continuity, such as producing their own Parachrom Bleu hairspring when Nivarox (another Swatch company) decided to only produce for Swatch.. What do you suppose is in store for Tudor.............

I'd be surprised if Rolex put the Tudor line out to pasture, too much market share to relinquish it.

Rolex made the decision a few years ago to no longer import to the USA. Tudor even makes a neat looking Chronograph..41mm with date...

Maybe Rolex could make the movement and Tudor could come back to USA?
(I like the chronograph with date)

Why did they decide not to ship to USA anymore? Isn't the US a big market?

Bought my wife a TT Tudor ladies date a long time ago but she didn't like it and I returned it. Back then they were very very similar to Rolex but with fewer jewels.

Tudor was actualy stared by Hans Wilsdorf in 1946.....I would assume that the Rolex hype is so large here, Rolex felt it was in their best interest not to import that branch here, $$$ wise that is......JMO.

Rolex either needs to take the Tudor more seriously or retire it because those who love their vintage stuff should cringe at the modern.

I think Rolex still owns Tudor but tries to market it in such a way to get out of the shadow of Rolex since late 90's by using Tudor's own crown, case back, etc. Since then, you will see new models looks so differently every year in the Basel Show such as Hydronaut II, Aeronaut, and the new Chrono series.
Also, the service of Tudor watches are still supported by Rolex which I consider is good to have synergy and bring the serving cost of Tudor watches down. Though Tudor still use ETA movements at the moment, incidently I come across in other forum that they have adopted movement other than ETA in some new ladies' series already. I am eagerly waiting to see what new chrono movement Tudor will use other than the 7750 and the 7753 (in the ne w chrono series) because I believe it is quite difficult to source a cost effective and massly produced chrono movement other than ETA. |

I am sure Tudor is here to stay and won't be put out due to the ETA problem.

I was told by one member of a tudor watch group that they were officially sold close to 5 years ago,but that there where many licensing issues and so forth that would keep them tied to the rolex service arena for many years to come.
dont know this for a certainty, just what has come down the vine. cheers all |
