Would you trade a 16610 LV for a 16170?

Hello,

Would you trade a "Kermit" for a Pepsi 16170?
In terms of value appreciation, which one would you choose and why?

Pepsi with a 3186 movement, Yes.
Without, I'd keep the LV.
To some it makes no difference but to me it does.

i'd get the pepsi on straight trade if its a factory pepsi with proper flip-lock buckle and not just a bezel insert swap on a coke or black gmt. if its a standard 16170 with just the pepsi bezel added, you're giving up about $1k or more in trade value based on the current market.

LV, but if 16170 is what you want more, it is still a good trade.

I wouldn't base it on value or appreciation.
Get what you prefer. I love both models but the GMT a bit more.

I have an LV and an 'M' Pepsi.

I voted for the LV.

There's something about that triplock and maxi dial.

They are both prized (to me) versions of discontinued models.

I like both and wouldn't want to part with one to get the other.

I'd keep the LV and add the 16710, even if it meant having to delay the purchase until funds allowed.

As usual, Dr. Tom speaks with wisdom.

Ask yourself, why do I want to trade? Do I want the added utility of the time-zone third hand, or do I prefer the countdown bezel (my term)? Which looks better to you? To me, they are both beautiful.

As others have pointed out, each is a discontinued icon, although the Pepsi might have a slight advantage in that regard, given the interest generated by the new Basel white gold version (although that watch is in a completely different league).

Since they are both grails of mine, one of which I have and one which I have yet to obtain, I could never trade either for the other; I'm simply trying to save up enough to justify the purchase while twin tuition bills still beckon.

If having both is out of the question and the Pepsi sings louder to you, then do it; if not, then don't.

How do you tell whether the bezel is the one the watch left the factory with?

You can't, generally.

In the US some of the later releases have a build code in the paperwork, but an insert change is pretty irrelevant and certainly not worth a difference in value. They're easy to find and change.

I'm having the exact same dilemma. If my LV wasn't a Flat 4, I would have already done it.

this

but try explaining that to a seller of a mint panam pepsi or serious collector looking for one. i agree it shouldn't make a diff but it does.
