If the internet says its iconic what more proof do you need. You must believe it and then buy it.

Gotta go against the grain here and say the OP, and all OPs, should buy only these specific watches. They just happen to be the ones I like most... First is the...

Whatever floats your boat, mate. If you only want pieces with your name on the warranty - dozo and good luck!

Write your name on the warranty card and the problem is solved.

two when they arrive believe me you can tell if they have been opened, for example in my picture, was already opened after I saw it to have the watchmaker size it, it doesn't have the white form strip over the face I am really starting to like you |

I'm confused, you start out by saying that you will never sell your watches, then below you said you've considered selling one of your watches??

I once sold a perfectly functional watch because I was planning to keep it and I needed my name on the papers. Paid 2k extra and got it new. Same watch, same model. Unfortunately, I still flipped it afterwards.

the cases only vary by size to accommodate the watch, i.e. the DSSD was obviously bigger than my Daytona. No markings on the plastic box just paper stickers with numbers nothing cool |

As to having your name on the card, I have no opinion. It only matters for warrantee reasons to me. Otherwise, I don't care.
As to collecting strategy, etc., that is highly personal. For example, I would feel the opposite of you: I own a Hulk so I want my next Rolex to be as different looking as possible so when I rotate them it does not feel like I'm wearing the same watch. And I prefer watches that stand out from the crowd, so I don't want the black Sub that everyone else owns, regardless of it being an "icon." That is why I went for the Green. But that is me. The great thing about owning or collecting anything is you can do it in a way that reflects your own personality. |

Same here.

The other thing is that do you want that many watches? I have two and I struggle between choosing which one to wear. I think 2 is plenty, 3 is too much for me alone but I figure I can share with the wife. For my second watch, I planned on the hulk. Logically the hulk made sense- I never had a green watch, it was something I would feel comfortable wearing to work. Then I tried on the Bluesy at the AD's recommendation. I thought two-tone is tacky, ugly, pointless, and for idiots. But I'll humor the guy and well now I have a bluesy. Love the watch. Quote:
Yeah I want my name on it and like it BNIB. But that being said, if you've already have it in your collection, keep it. It's pointless to sell it off then buy another one. Unless you've got so much cash that it's not a big deal. For my last watch, I'm open to used as I'm going to stretch for a solid gold piece. Quote:
Personally I'd be BORED with a a collection that's all one color- whether it's all platinum, YG, RG, SS. I'm doing the exact opposite of you. Another reason why I went bluesy over hulk. First watch was a SS Explorer I Second watch, is a TT bluesy Third watch, I'm planning a solid RG model- right now it's either a 36mm DD or the Daytona. And who knows? Maybe it might be a JLC MUT PC... I'm keeping my options open, but it HAS to be RG. I love YG but I don't want more of the same. These are my opinions and others may totally disagree which is fine. But this is what I want from my collection. There is no right or wrong- well there is a wrong way of doing this and it's not going with your gut or trying to buy these things using logic (except of course when it comes to the question of can you afford it). There's gotta be an emotional pull to these things, otherwise why spend so much? And don't say for investment purposes. Chances are, your sub-c will NOT make headlines for hodinkee in 2030. |

Very funny thread. Love the OCD admissions.
I like my watches to be well looked after, but at the end of the day, they are just watches. They will be worn and they will get scratched. Regards to name on papers - doesn't bother me if a get a fantastic deal on a watch from a trust seller here. I am looking to collect a variety of brands (as seen in my signature), looking to add at AP next. My only rule is no yellow gold.

I am with you on the iconic watch collection front and that has been at the heart of my own collection....... See thread below;
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=319315 So if you are serious about collecting iconic watches, you will inevitably need to buy some vintage and pre-owned and you will simply have to accept them without your name on the guarantee....... Unless of course you have a time machine. I caveat mine by only collecting watches with full sets so boxes and paper and ideally all the trimmings.....so little time capsules....... But it makes absolutely no difference to me or any watch collector I know in terms of the name on the guarantee. The watch and its condition take precedence |

You have a very nice collection (watches and autos)! Just out of curiosity then, do you not buy from trusted sellers here on TRF? After all, you did say you had issues. :-) |
