DSSD to Sub-C Date, Happy or Regretful?
So as the title states, I'm trying to gauge others experiences. A good friend allowed me to borrow his Sub-c date as I've been seriously contemplating selling my deep sea. I had always thought it was the one Rolex I had ever wanted, but lately it just feels (and looks) too big on me. I've been pleasantly surprised by my "borrowed" Sub, its size and looks. I've been wearing it now three days straight, seems like it's not too "small" at all. I'd be purchasing the Hulk in the future if my likes continue. Thoughts from those who have flipped their DSSD? Thanks again.

If I ever decide to flip my DSSD for whatever reason, it would only be to buy the SD-C.

I plan on picking up a SUB C no date this Christmas and still keep my DSSD. If I were to ever flip my DSSD, then it would only be towards the SDC 116600. Something about that extra water resistance gives me a warm and fuzzy sense of security when in a hot tub.

The SubC is more comfortable as a daily in most cases. If I were to downgrade to just one watch then it would be the SDc.
Fortunetly I was able to own the Deepsea alongside the LVc. The LVc is an incredible watch but the Deepsea has so many unique features. I get a lot more than the time when I look at my wrist, and while both are rewarding the Deepsea is the one I can't stop looking at. I found myself troubled by the Deepsea's size on many occasions and it's generally because I constantly played a comparison game in my head with every watch I saw. Looking down at it from the side it looks huge, but it didn't "feel" that way. Now that I've been wearing my Sub as a daily I come to realize that my Deepsea was in a way more comfortable on my wrist. I don't know fully why but it stayed centered more and was more stable. The case back on my Sub seems to always nudge towards the 12 o'clock and dig into wrist bone. I think because of the elevated case back and extra size the Deepsea is more stable. At least that's my theory. In any case, for most the Submariner will no doubt be a more comfortable watch and if that's most important to you than go for it. But I wouldn't, I would save all my pennies and just add a nice preowned 114060. |

DSSD is great but if there were to be only one, it's a Sub for me. No doubt.

If you are in a one watch only situation then the Sub C makes sense. If you have multiple pieces then it does not IMO. For example, if you have a Gmt or another 40mm sport model (even 42mm) then the 40mm slot has already been filled.

I recently, actually 2 weeks ago flipped my DSSD for a SubC No Date as I too started feeling my DSSD was a little to big,I had been wearing my TT SubC and when I put on the DSSD it seemed huge. I have to say Im very happy with the flip with no regrets and I thought that was the watch I would hand down to my son

It's EXACTLY what I did. The DSSD is a great watch!...but not for my 7.5 inch wrist. Sold it. Bought a SubC -LN. Less than a year later, I bought the LV-c. Zero regrets.

Thought about a few times but always felt I would regret it. Think I'll buy an LVc and see how that works instead of giving up the DSSD.

Try the SDc. It's a great compromise between the two.

Owned both the DSSD and the Sub-C in tandem (7.25-inch wrist). Persevered with the DSSD for a year before finally admitting to self that it was too big.
Still own the Sub-C, which often loses out on wrist time to the Exp 1 39 mm and various vintage Tudors. And a Breitling, for god's sake... |

Both great watches, however I'd say the SubC is slightly more wearable on a day to day basis.

I'd keep the DSSD over my LVc personally but I can understand why the popular view is the other way round

I've tried selling the mighty DSSD but always end up buying it back. Sure, it is a monster Rolex that is completely over-the-top, but there is something about that domed crystal and the sheer bad-ass'ness of the Deepsea that draws me back in.
It is certainly not a Rolex for everyone, and I don't think it is a good one-and-only watch, but I love having it in the collection and use when the urge sets in. |

Watch sizes play some serious mind-games on you. I've trained my mind to adapt faster to different watch sizes --- which has helped me a lot. I'd keep your DSSD and pick up a SubC to complement it. Otherwise both sizes will play individual games with you and you'll end up flipping continuously until you lose your mind.
