Rolex met their 2013 quota early and therefore will increase their prices in the first half of 2014. Whether before or after Basel is the question. This was the "thinking" passed to me from the unknowing!!!

I would buy that statement my friend. Since increases have been at the first of the month , I'd say more likely after baselworld

I stepped into the local AD here in Sydney to try on a DSSD.
It's price has risen from AUD$12,000 to $13,5000.

Works out cheaper to buy here BNIB even with the exchange rate factored in.

So you want the "investors" to be unhappy?

Didn't happen, it's a sales tactic. Prices will increase eventually, but they would not tell a sales rep when and how much it would be before it happens.
What would be a great sales tactic was if Rolex actually announced price increases a month in advance. Anyone teetering on the fence would buy before the increase.

I actually do welcome the increases though as long as I am not planning a purchase in the short term because since the products are unchanged when an increase happens, it actually makes my timepieces appreciate in price. It is about the only thing other than decades worth of time that can make a Rolex increase in value.

If rolex announced the price increase a month in advance, people would take that as a buying opportunity and bought in bulk the popular model like sports model. So regular people like us who would just buy for our own would never get the piece that is popular and end up with the new price. Moreover, i think AD would rather sell with new price.

The local ADs here are contacted first thing in the morning to collect the revised price list and boom goes the price rises on the same day so unfortunately there isn’t any advance warning.

I spoken to about 4-5 ADs here which said the same thing and recent we’ve had the price increase this year too!

And that Hong Kong price increase you mention was leaked online about three days in advance. http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=367552
