Maurice Lacroix opinions?

Hi guys ,

Great forum here. I've gained alot of knowledge lurking around this forum. I've gotten to a point where I "need" <-- read want a new watch.

Any thoughts about the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Decentrique GMT? It has always smiled to me, even after I've gotten my GMTIIc. But I dont have anyone to ask about the brand or this watch in my circle of friends. So i thought i'll ask you bunch of watchaholics...

Picture and specs from Maurice Lacroix website

Movement
hand-decorated mechanical automatic ML 121 movement, 30 jewels or rhodanized.

Case
stainless steel; domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflecting coating on inside, screwed caseback with sapphire crystal; water-resistant to 50 m (5 atm), diameter 43 mm.

Dial
black; index marks, Arabic numerals for date indication, Roman numerals for 2nd time zone; luminous hands (hours/minutes/2nd time zone) and moon symbol.

Thanks..

Personally I love the brand. I also believe they are decently priced. The one you are looking at does not do it for me but to each their own. I think it is a solid company. It has a short history compared to many other Swiss manufacturers (1961) but it has a solid footing in watchmaking and style. A lot of them have exhibition backs which is a real turn-on for me. I love to see what makes them tick (get it; "see what makes them tick" God I kill myself ). I don't think you can go wrong in going with one of their watches. I would not expect it to hold it's value like a Rolex but who cares. Especially since you are satisfying personal tastes rather than going along with the Joneses.

Post some pics when you get it. I may feel differently after I see the exhibition back.

Great brand with excelent designs and craftsmanship, I was with an AD for Maurice Lacroix a month ago and saw some of the watches, they are great! If you look at the movements you can see a lot of detail on their finish and a lot of blue screws! this is an indication of a well done watch! I beleive that watch was awarded last year by Red Dot Design Award, they award everyday life products for their design. Here is the link http://en.red-dot.org/2236.html.

Good if you want a dressy GMT - instead of the rugged, macho styled Rolex

That is a beautiful dial, especially in white. I love the date display and the day-night symbols. Not sure about the 2 time displays like that. I think I'd be confused.

Still, ML has some great looking watches in their masterpiece collection.

Very good watches,and not overpriced!
I got this one, with modified ETA 2892-2 movement in it.
It works PERFECTLY and it`s finish is amazing!
And my watch is model from the end of 1990.`s.I think that brand now is even more serious and you can`t go wrong buying some of their beautiful watches.

Here`s mine,Masterpiece Full Calendar!

@Mort: Thanks for sharing your opinion. Very nice watch you got there. I love your dial.

I've suddenly developed a fondness for watches with moonphase (although im not sure whether its of any use to me but a want is a want nonetheless ) and a lil bit more dressy look from my macho Rolex

Thanks for the complement. As far as moon phase goes,it really does not have a real use. But it is a neat function, it might come in handy for planting corn or some other use the people in the old days needed to know the moon phases.

As far as the watch goes, I only have one drawback, when I bought the ML, I wish I had the extra cash to pony up to get it in Rose Gold, still the two tone looks good.
