Collections and Collectors…

Close to posting my first incoming email here, and wanted to check the perspective from the wise WIS here. Many here will post their incredible watch collections under the approximate heading of “… my humble collection”. In my humble opinion, there is nothing humble (Oxford def: “having or showing a modest or low estimate of ones own importance) about these collections – all of them are spectacular, curated purposefully, purchased/traded/exchanged/lost/loved/regained with each piece having a unique and interesting story.

These “humble” collections are anything but – they inspire, inform and enable everyone else. I would suggest that there are no humble collections, but many humble collectors here. Sharing their opinions and ideas (and those tantalizing pictures), even if they do not currently own a particular reference, is a truly selfless service to the TRF community. So to you all, thank you very much for sharing your collections.

Ah, the Humble Collection. It's usually either sarcasm or false modesty.

Indeed this is true and the key reason I enjoy TRF so much. There are many on here with collections that I could never amass, yet they are willing to take the time to offer comments on suggestions on far less expensive watches. I think it's pretty cool.

I think when people say humble here they mean it, it's not false, because we all know people here who have epic collections that truly make them look humble.

When I use humble regarding my collection it means I'm proud of it, but I know it isn't anything to showoff!
