True meaning to the word FRUSTRATION
OK, So here's the deal. I recently sold our camper through a consignment dealer. I went down, dropped off the title and picked up the check about a week ago. Our bank holds checks over $3000. for five days to ensure they clear. No prob. We had about 15K between the savings and checking so we didn't need the money.
The check (a company check) for $10,500. bounced like nobody's business! The idea of using a consignment deal is to shield the seller from just such a thing! Right? Well, the gent who owns the place is 64 y/o. He seems honest enough. He has a large business. Given all this I can't believe he would pass a bum check! My frustration comes in acting like an adult. The first instinct was to go to his house a break one of his legs, give him a week to make good, or break the other. Second was to go to his house, shoot him in the knee, then peel strips of skin off his hide until he made good. As I was loading up my gear, Momma steps in with the voice of reason. She makes the point that a criminal record won't do me any good. I counter with the argument that he won't tell a soul if I scare him bad enough. Long story short, she won. So I give Doofus 3 days to pony up or I call the State Prosecutor's Office and the Sheriff. I has been three days, and no money. He says he is trying. What would an adult do? Call the law or break his go-sticks? I'm torn. I have explained to him that I'm going to have him arrested, etc... What else can I do? How long would be a reasonable amount of time? See, I'm frustrated! I want to go stomp on his head until it's roughly the consistancy of chunky peanut butter! AAAAAUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Gun |

Gunther, the guy sounds like a ninny. If you thump him, he going to charge you and probably sue you as well. This means you'll probably be out the money he owes you. If you charge him you can always cut a side deal with the creep and drop the charges once he has paid you. If he does'nt pay up before court, the judge will attach his wages and or accounts and you'll get the cash anyway.

CJ's right, Gun. You'll have to go about this the diplomatic way. Your way will only spell more trouble for you.
Good luck, pal...from all of us on TRF. Do keep us updated. Cheers - JJ

My first reaction was for you to break his legs but cooler heads must prevail so do it the right way.

That's why in my country there is no such thing as personal checks. You either pay cash, by bank transfer (in advance) or if you are really loaded have your banker wire a guarantee. We had postal checks worth a fixed amount and they were guaranteed just like bank notes.
This is a bummer. Believe me, giving someone an extra set of knees leads to nowhere. Let the law be at your side
