I'm interested in this sub. I love the matte dial with open markers.
But I'd like to make sure in not getting beaten up.
The band is marked 93150, which I think is appropriate.
The ends are 593, also appropriate, I think.
The serial is 803xxxx and the movement is a 3035.
The open 6 is, I believe, correct for the period.
As best as I can tell, the thick font on the insert is correct, too.
The date is not quick-set.
It winds nice and smooth.
It doesn't show in my photos but the bottom of the face around the 6 has tiny scrapes.
Any reason this watch is doubtable? I am able to get it for 5k with no information about its history. The case seems a little beat up but nothing frightening.
Experts? What am I missing here? Is there anything that doesn't seem original on this watch? Is the low price just a reflection of the beating the case has taken and the soft market for this model?

Should be quick-set : turn the crown anti-clockwise in the mid-position. 3035 is a quick-set movement; 16610 brought the 3135 calibre which is also quick-set but you turn the crown the other way to change the date.

Dial looks original.

Is it the dial or the glass which is marked at 6 ? Glass would be the better of the two, as it can be replaced easily if you wish in due course.

Quite a common watch so if in doubt, hold out. Patience will definitely find you alternative watches to choose from.

Don't know the US market but $5k won't be a million miles away - impossible for anyone to be too sure without seeing more details.

I'd likely pass due to the chipping you mentioned at the bottom of the dial. I am able to see it quite clearly.

Spend some time searching. A nicer one will come up.

By the way, the 16800 is my favorite Submariner. : )

There was a head only version on WUS for about 3200 just about a month ago.
The value is to a large extent in the dial and this one is damaged. It's overpriced.
