What DO you want in a watch...

If you could design it yourself?

I would want a 42-44mm cushion case in SS, with a semi-sloping fixed bezel with as much dial as possible. A black dial, with arabics at 12, 3, 6, 9, with slashes at the others, no second markers. It would also be a sandwich dial.

Instead of a chapter ring, I'd want a rotating 'inner' diving bezel. This would be rotated via a crown at the 2 o'clock position of the case. The main crown would be at the 4 o'clock position.

It would have hour, minute and second complications, and a date complication, panorama-style between the centre and the 6.

It would also have a screw-on type bar for the strap and also come with an oyster-like bracelet, although with a completely hidden butterfly clasp.

That would do me nicely.

Firstly, must be easy to read. So contrasting hands/dial.
Depending on style, bracelet or strap work for me.
Should have a nice weight/feel to it. However, I have been known to wear my Swatch Skin ( only 3mm thick) for certain activiities.
Not too many complications. Second hand , maybe the date, but not much else.
Whether it has any numbers or not, depends on my mood.
RELIABILITY and water resistant ( I do have one that is not & it drives me crazy)

Excellent post, Johnny...and here's my absolute honest answer.

I would love the green LV Sub with the same maxi dial, same movement, but with just TWO changes:

1. A BLACK bezel.
2. All links on the Fliplock bracelet to be SOLID.

That's all I need....that would then be the SUPER ULTIMATE ROLEX!!

Anyone want to start taking bets as to when JJ's 16610 gets flipped for an LV? I say the next one that comes into Mansors.

Don't be silly! Firstly, the green LV is priced way beyond that of the 16610. Secondly, Mansor's hardly gets them in 'cause he surprisingly has no demand for them. And, thirdly, well....there's no thirdly.

Hey, stop it!! I'm well and truly happy with the 16610. You jokers are a terrible influence on a guy. Stop playing mind games with me!!

I want the same knock off movement that JJ has in his YM, the ticking second hand and all.

I'm easy to please. An SS Black GMT-II with a Triplock crown would do me just fine.

A 16610 with a domed Sapphire crystal (so it looks acrylic but isn't), a matt dial with the old-style Tritium markers, - oh, and the dial and bezel would be a really deep navy blue. If you made the bracelet solid, and beefed up the clasp like the new TOG (minus the bling), it'd be perfect!!!

Oh, and stick the cyclops on the inside like a Panerai!

John, this is a great thread. I've been thinking about this all night and honestly I haven't got an answer. I love the GO pano and the Sohne moon phase, as well as, my GMT, a Seiko diver, chrono function or the timeless simplicity of a 14060M
I like all of these different complications and styles to go with different moods, settings or atmospheres. But if I were to mix them altogether into one watch I don't think I would like it at all.

Great, you've helped me realize that I will be buying watches forever and that no one watch will ever satisfy me Why couldn't I have had a cheaper addiction or a much better paying job

I like watches with scratches on the movement plates, screw heads that are chewed up, and hairsprings that are so out of shape the watch doesn't run. As Paul said, if that's the kind of watch you like, I'm the watchmaker that can make your dreams come true!

Nah, with permission it ain't fun anymore. I go with JJ's thoughts: a 16610 with big dial and all solid links plus an incredible ever lasting lume. (And ceramic bezel insert). Yummy!
