Congrats on getting your grail Sub. Wear it in good health.
It's also nice you bought your wife a Rolex and kept the Speedking.

For me, the first time I actually noticed the Rolex as a James Bond watch was when Roger Moore wore the brand in Live and Let Die. The sight of the watch gave me a thrill, because, at that time, I too owned a Rolex. It was 1973, I was still in college, but I had inherited my first Rolex. It was my father’s, a 1956 Rolex Oyster Speedking, an iconic watch that was preferred by British soldiers during World War II. It’s an heirloom that still ticks merrily away even today.

Sometime in the mid-80s a friend of mine came back from Saudi Arabia with a brand new blue-dial Rolex Submariner. He gave it to me to wear for a few days. I loved the feel of it, chunky and warm, but not so heavy that it dragged your hands down. It glistened and gleamed, and attracted immediate attention. People everywhere would ask to look at it and admire it. It felt so great. Alas, after a couple of weeks, my friend was returning to Saudi, and I had to return it. But the seed had been sown inside me; one day, when I could afford it, I had to own one.

A couple of years ago, on our 20th wedding anniversary, I did not need to think too much about what I would present my wife, it had to be a Rolex. I went to the Rolex Boutique at UB City, Bangalore, where Mr. Munnavar helped me select a Lady Datejust 31, with a floral motif dial. It was an awesome gift and a memorable moment when it was presented.
Last week, my wife and I visited the store again and I was able to fulfil my life’s dream. We walked out with a brand new black-dial Submariner on my wrist.

What can you say about the Submariner that has not been said before? It’s such an iconic watch, instantly recognizable. It serves several functions: a working diver’s watch that is good for diving till 1000 feet; it’s a great looking sports watch; and you could probably wear it to a formal party, and no one will ask questions. In other words, the Submariner is a watch for all occasions.
I still haven’t owned it long enough to make judgments based on experience, but there is enough evidence from all over the world that suggests that the Submariner is dependable, tough, and is a delight to own. Not even one voice of regret from hundreds of owners, who have taken to online forums to generously share their experiences. I look forward to a life-long partnership with my Rolex Submariner. I may or may not buy another Rolex, but this one will always be my favourite watch.

A word of thanks to the Rolex boutique in Bangalore, and Mr. Munnavar in particular. I have interacted with him several times now. He is a man who know his Rolex inside out, his advise is precise and to the point. He delivers his opinions with honesty and frankness and he never pushes you to buy. It is a pleasure doing business with people like him.

Thank you Rolex.

Congrats.
I bought the same Submariner 2 months ago. Even after 2 months, it still looks stunning to me.
