16710 GMT from Coke to Pepsi and beyond
I read that on the GMT Master II 16710, the insets are interchangeable.
Although I wouldn't attempt this myself, the procedure of swapping the Coke, Pepsi or black bezel inserts are fairly straight forward, correct? Apart from just the insert, are there any other physical differences among these 16710? I know the serial number indicates the insert style the watch was manufactured with. Thought to ask if there's anything else I should be aware of. Last edited by Tools; 25 February 2015 at 02:22 AM.. |

A 16710 is a 16710 the world around with no physical or functional differences except minor cosmetics from time-to-time. The insert is replaceable and interchangeable..
The serial number does not indicate anything about the watch (not the insert style), it's just an assigned number unique to that watch.

Not the ser no but the letter designation before the reference code. Changing an insert is quite easy. Plenty of tutorials about. I'm sure Jocke the photographer has a very good one.

Trust me if I can swap mine out, you can do it. It is pretty straight forward. Worst case, you take it to Rolex and pay for them to fix your mistake. Just one tip I have if you do it yourself, do it over a white towel or something where a small metal piece would easily be found. When I last swapped mine, the little metal piece that causes the bezel to click flew off and got lost on my wood floor. I luckily found it after 20 minutes of looking.

changed my coke insert for the all black, but since I picked up my Sub I've changed back to the coke....it takes about 5mins. I had a look on You Tube to see how it's done.

Thanks for reconfirming the differences
I mean the watch code 16710-5 / 16720-6 / 16710-1 for the bezel ID not serial numbers. I am in love with the Pepsi, especially summer is just round the corner. It's nice to know that the 16710 has the ability for an easy facelift, in addition to strap changes. |

For versatility, the 16710 has got to be the winner. Perhaps Dan Pierce will be along to share his myriad of different straps, bracelets, and inserts for this model...amazing.

Actually, it comes after, and only on watches that came later. Generally, after they stopped using punched papers.

How can you tell the difference between an original bezel insert and a fake one? I've seen several on eBay that range from $11 to $250 and to my untrained eye they look exactly the same. Notice I'm only referring to coke bezel inserts, not full watches.
