In any case, go to an AD, try on some of the models, see how it fits your hand, go back and read some details about them, perhaps ask a few more questions here until you realize what really attracts you. Then you can set a goal, gather up a few more money, start searching for the best price until you buy what you really want. |

My first Rolex was a used non-ceramic sub no date (14060M) which I'm wearing today. I just keep adding to the collection...

I agree with the others, I would continue saving until you can get the watch you want. In the meantime, think about what matches your identity and lifestyle. Since it will be your first (and only Rolex for awhile), you want to make sure its right for you.
For now, my first and only is an Explorer II. I'm active, so I wanted a flip lock clasp and an all brushed steel braclet. I can't remember the date and I travel internationally (wanted GMT feature), so the choice came pretty easily. |

Sub should be the pillar of any collection. But I agree with the Tudor comment(s) above. You can squeeze out a black bay, or add a bit more and get a pelagos.

Nothing wrong with starting with a sub.
