Command Bezel
The early screw down winding crown evolved into the Triplock winding crown, complete with the additional seal. Now there are new model watches with complications and a command bezel, and I am puzzled how these bezels which rotate to set functions of the watch and in doing so must penetrate the watch case, still retain the watertight qualities of the Oyster case??

Command bezel is on the Skydweller I believe? Not sure of the mechanics of it myself.

There's actually 2 watches with a ring command bezel. . for YM2 all bezel action is external to the Watch, so there's no waterproofness issue. When rotating, the bezel turns a control ring that engage a groove in pusher A , locking it. Pusher B will then be locked by pressing on it , through a pin engaged by the control ring. The lock on those 2 pushers then determines how it'll works Inside, for programing the countdown. . for SkyDweller it's another story. There's a stem that passes through a hole on the upper side of the case Under the bezel. On each extremity of this stem there's a pinion. Outside the case, this pinion is moved by the bezel rotation (Inside part of the bezel is notched). Inside the case, the pinion is used to engage "special functions" by moving some other pieces in the movment. This stem is made waterproof the same way the winding stem is, by using o-rings. I hope my description is clear (english isn't my native langage). |

Yup, same here, when the AD was showing me how the command worked on the SkyD it was pretty fascinating stuff.

If you get a copy of the Rolex Magazine number 3 there is a great explanation on how the command bezel work and how to operate it. It's just fantastic.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. SKY DWELLER also has got a few patents and that innovative comand ring bezel must also become one of them.
