Selling or flipping makes the next one easier to obtain. Some flip as it was an impulse purchase (myself included).

Hate to burst the bubble and I spend as much of the day admiring my watches as the next, but at the end of the day they are a device for telling the time, we dont attribute great experiences like following a sporting team or a boat/race car etc... as such the ability to get bored particularly with something that does not lose much money makes it a viable flipping platform....... I used to flip but am now building my keepers unless of course my financial situation changes, in which case I have a mental list of who goes first into the used market.........

[QUOTE= But again, why are there so many for sale on the used market, why don't most people keep them?
I believe most people do keep them. |

I think most people worry about selling and the chances of being ripped off or having the watch stolen by the prospective buyer. As such, many people probably feel their only option is to sell to a pre-owned dealer with relatively low values being offered.
But, as soon as people have established a safe and reliable way to sell and, clearly, forums like TRF are an excellent option, flipping becomes a very simple and painless process........ And anything that's simple and painless will be used over and over again..... For me, I enjoy having a collection and also the process of building a collection so, having lots of watches for sale, suits me perfectly....... |

There are some who flip & some like myself that buy the Rolexes that they always wanted & just keep them. I always wanted a DJ & Sub but then fell in love with the 39mm explorer & added it to my collection.

An interesting question and discussion. I find myself from time to time thinking about why the need to have more than one nice watch...and why do I flip a watch that works and fits perfectly well. And on the flip side, just exactly what is that magic number of watches in a collection and what are they?
Usually at this point my head starts to hurt and I think about something else. Someday, the answers may come...until that point I will probably just enjoy my little WIS hobby. |

They make a ton of watches. People know they are liquid, and they exercise that liquidity when needed.
