It's tough being tough

Chaps

As you may be aware I am one of the toughest guys in this forum. I may be an old 66 year old codger but I am still tough. I regularly defile bulls and grisly bears for the sheer hell of it, and to be even tougher I actually swim in the ocean wearing my Sub and wear my Explorer when exploring.

However I think I may now have gone too far. Yesterday whilst on a short break in Spain, I wore my Frecionne 1655 in a cave. It wasn't a particularly deep cave but it was dark and damp and guess what, I have scratched the plexi.

It's only a small surface scratch about 1/4" square but seeing as I only bought it and had it serviced a few weeks ago, I do feel a bit guilty if not stupid. The AD replaced the plexi, so it was brand new.

Spain is a useless place for buying stuff, so when I return to Blighty in a couple of weeks time, I will get the Brazzo or similar out and buff it up.

I have to admit it makes you think if the "Is it safe to wear my watch" brigade may have it right after all.

Yours in gloom

Mick

keep it as a reminder of the journey. I never was afraid of scratches...they tell a story.

You are quite a legend over here in Blighty so I would wear your watch scar with pride the same as you do with all your physical ones, they all tell a story Mick!

hmmm, tough story comparisons:

1. Yeah, I scratched my plexi while caving in Spain

2. Yeah, I scratched my plexi while pushing open the restroom door at the office.

A scratch can happen either way, which gets more tough points?

I'm not quite as tough as you, but I did wear my 5513 on an overnight trip aboard a WW2 era submarine, where everything is made of metal and crammed into an incredibly small amount of space.

My watch made it through with just a few nicks, but I barely survived sleeping on that bunk bed. How those men managed on those vessels is nothing short of amazing.

Yes, but are you tough enough to use sandpaper toilet paper?

Hi

You make a good point and at the end of the day a scratch is a scratch.

Where I do feel guilty is that going down a dark cave was almost asking for it.

I now sort of emphasise with the "is it ok to shower with my SD4000 on" brigade.

I am just hoping that a plexi is as easy to polish up as everyone claims it is.

Scratching a bracelet does not worry me, but scratching the glass is just too visual for comfort.

Regards

Mick

I'd say your now part of, what I would imagine, is a very small group of people who have actually used their 1655 while spelunking, doing what it was designed to do. The scratch should buff out without any issues. I hope you checked the time to confirm whether it was day or night outside? You can now tick the box on that one!

Hi

I sort of spelunked. The height of the cave was about 4ft high so it was not that cramped.

If I had the sense to wear gloves, it would not have happened but being tough I went in gloveless.

I was in and out in about 20 minutes so the am / pm thingy was somewhat academic.

Regards
