"Best bang for the buck" $5000

If been shopping around for a Rolex with a $5000 budget, I have considered Submariners with holes solid end links with and without papers ( seen between $4500- $5000, "4 line" Subs no dates 14060M with papers around $5000. I have considered 1990's GMT's and also Sea dwellers usually without papers for around $5000. If the price was right I have considers new style datejusts which I've seen for low $4000's with papers in stainless. So far my number one choice is a Milgauss "M" serial number with card, no box for $4750! It is not the green, it has a black dial and is in great condition. I guess if your going to have a problem, finding the right Rolex is a nice one to have.....any suggestions?

You shouldn't have any problem finding a great example of a 116610 for around that range.
Some dealers will even sell you the 214270 Explorer 39mm for $5k, bnib.

For just a few hundred more you can get a BNIB Explorer 39mm 214270 if that particular watch appeals to you.

I agree with this! But if you can't wait I would definitely pick up a 16610 or an explorer 2, not sure of the reference but not the 42mm.

ok just wanted to point out, I actually love the 42mm explorer, it is definitely on my list of watches to own one day. but if you were to save the extra money for that watch, I would recommend going for the 116610 SubC instead.

I have a 2-liner 14060M on my wrist right now, my favorite watch!

My next one will be a black Milgauss.

...I would prefer owning a more versatile watch like the Sub before a Milgauss any day of the week - on top of the amazing history of the Sub.

Whichever watch you settle with, make sure you aren't just getting it because it's the 'best bang for your buck'. It might take longer than you want, but the watch should come to you and not leave your mind for a couple of weeks. When the image of that perfect dial becomes engrained in your mind, then buy it. Because you will be happier with that watch than with any 'bang for your buck' that you decide to get.

For $5K, you could get:

GMT 16710/16700/16760/16750 (White Gold) without B&P
Sub 16610 w/B&P
Sub 16800/0 no B&P

I think these will provide you a lot of value. Can't go wrong with any one of these watches as they're great time pieces. It all depends on what you're looking for. Obviously condition plays a big role as to which one will fit your budget, so I'd go for best condition and then make the selection.
