my wife. 5 ft 2, petit and loves her 26mm tt fluted dj. the size fits really well on her smaller wrist. she could wear a larger one but she prefers the smaller size. My advice? find out what size she wants.

Buy her what she wants, not what you want her to have. Thought she would like a Daytona as I wanted one to do dual duty. Ain't happening.
Loves her 26mm datejust 179174 with black face and diamond dial

Bought my wife a 26mm SS black dial DJ for Christmas a few years ago. She like it but thought it was too small. I traded it for a 34mm blue AirKing. Just bought her the new white grape 36mm Oyster Perpetual. Buy her a 36mm DJ.

Every time I bring up a watch "for her" my wife turns up her nose. God I'm a lucky man.

Are you set on buying a Rolex? Another option might be the Omega Ladymatic which is 34mm. The Aqua Terra is 36mm but fits more in line of the 34mm to be honest. I tried on the 38.5mm & thought it fit like the 36mm Rolex. I found the 36mm Omega fit smaller than the 36mm Datejust. If she likes purple & diamonds, Bernard Watch has a pre-owned Omega Ladymatic with factory warrenty still in place. I've never purchased there but I suppose you can negotiate. I did try the watch on at an AD & I loved it. Colour is so deep & luscious. Just an overall gorgeous piece. NO ..Rolex peeps dont get mad! Not all Rolex will fit all people. :-)

Good luck...

My mother is 5'2 and Korean. She also has around a 5.5 inch wrist (probably smaller) and absolutely loves her 36mm YG DD. I know you want it to be a surprise but maybe you could be sneaky about it and try to figure out what she prefers?

Mmmmm... I'd probably trade my wife in for a Patek... But the Datejust... Eh... Not that intriguing enough for me to do that. Jk! Anywhoo, my wife is petite and anything more than 34mm looks too big on her (both her and I agree on that). But keep in mind though, you need to keep her age into consideration. I know the older you get, that 26mm dial may become difficult to read.

He's not sure what she will want and he wants it to be a surprise...

Me too; my wife has no interest in wearing a watch.

Of course, she is into sports cars...

So many beautiful watches and opinions here. Whichever watch you decide to get for your wife, will be such a lovely gift. Congratulations to her for the new job. Tahoe is absolutely beautiful ❤️

Many consider the 36 a unisex model. Go for the Datejust 31, specially the floral dial. Someone already posted a picture of one. I bought this for my wife on our 20th anniversary.

Bought the wife a 31mm DJ with a pink dial a couple years ago and she likes it.
Still seemed to wear her larger fashion watches though.
So bought her this 36mm today for v-day.

DANGER ALERT

Buying a watch as a surprise is fraught with danger.

I bought my wife a 36mm watch and she never wears it because she thinks it is a bit butch looking.

She would have gone for the 26mm model.

You cannot guestimate what your wife wants.

Solution - take her out, buy her a decent lunch and then let her chose the watch she wants, not the one you think she wants.

Regards

Mick

Just bought my wife a pre-owned 31mm DJ for Valentine's day...

She is over the moon with it, and the look on her face when she opened the box was absolutely priceless!

I'm in same boat. Have to decide before her birthday which is a few days away. I had the AD to get in a white roman 31mm with fluted bezel and Jub bracelet. I'm seriously considering the 36mm. She has already said the 26mm is out. Too small in her opinion.
