Daytona will definitely hold its value better than the DSSD.

But for the OP, my guess, while neither is an investment, the Daytona will always have more buyers. Therefore, it becomes a better investment in terms of potential resale value.

I think if your like dssd and investment is important then you can only look at the d-blue and then your still gambling if Rolex will continue to limit supply or discontinue which no one knows. Daytona has consistently held its value so safer bet. No guarantees though and I think you should buy what you like!

Another vote for Daytona. A classic. Never out of style imo. Can't go wrong with that.

I recently had this conundrum.
I had a Zenith Daytona and a D-Blue James Cameron
On the table in front of me.
The Daytona was 1k cheaper with inverted '6'.

I asked my dealer which was the better investment and he said the Zenith no question.

I tried both on and in my heart the D-Blue was "the one".

My dealer said "you have to let your heart rule your head with watches because they are on your wrist and making a decision based on your head will always lead to regret every time you look at the watch".

Thanks for the replies. I was kinda leaning toward the Daytona because the Submariner kinda fills the use of the Deep Sea.

Now on to the search for a good used Daytona.

Will post picts of the Rolex family when I get it.

They are both not investments. Get what you like.
Get the dssd for when you drive a Range Rover and the Daytona for when you drive a viper

Depends which models - D-blue dial DSSD probably a safer bet than the black dial.
For Daytonas, steel a safer bet than TT or PM.
If the D-blue proves to be a short run (in Rolex terms this could still mean several years) then this would probably be the best buy in the long term.
Just my $0.02 of course.

By th the way....good thing Dodge specified that the Viper was indeed a coupe....those 2014 Viper Sedans are just hideous!!!

You're on a roll!

I'd say the Daytona is as safe a bet as there is in terms if retaining value.

Deepsea Blue 100%. It will stay a rare piece and will increase in value in my humble projection.

If you like SD and thinking about investment , i think SDDS d-blue may be better than black . But in general , Daytona is better.
