Help please - GMT resets date at noon
My Z serial 16710 is giving me an issue, and I'm not sure how to resolve it. My understanding is that there is no quick-date function, that has to be changed manually by using the 24 hour hand. Here's the issue - the date changes when my 24 hour hand passes 12 noon (i.e. the bottom of the dial at the 6 o'clock position). For instance, right now both my hour/minute hand and my 24 hour hand indicate that it's just past 7:30 am MST, and both will keep good time all day, but the date will flip from "6" to "7" at noon. How can I get the date function synchronized with 24 on the 24 hour hand, rather than 12?

Just turn the hand another 12 hours forward.

I've done that (and turned it 12 hours backward). Unfortunately the date is locked into the 24 hour hand, so that whenever the 24 hour hand passes through the 6 o'clock position, the date changes.

Can't you turn the 24 hour and 12 hours forward instead?

I think that what Bo meant, and also my understanding, is that if you turn the hour hand alone a complete turn, you shoould be ok...you think now that both your hour and 24 hands are sync, but the hand hour is probaly marking 00:00 when you think is noon. Another way of explaining it: is like if at some pointo both were syns, but then you went on a trip and moved the hour hand forward 12 hours, to follo local time, let's say 18:00 hours, while your 24 hour hand was showing your country of origin time, this is, 06:00 hours....therefore, changing date at midnight accorfing to hour hand, but still 12:00 according to 24 hour hand...
Hope I explained myself more or less... Regards Carlos |

OK, never mind, it's just that I haven't had my second cup of coffee. I was used to setting the date with the 24 hour hand, I didn't realize the date would also change via moving the hour hand at the second position. It's fine now. Move along, nothing to see here, pay no attention to the moron..
Thanks guys, your explanations were spot on, I was just in an uncomprehending state.

It's OK to have a blonde moment. Especially if you aren't blonde.

Geez - I'm glad you figured it out. After reading Mandrakes "explanation" I was starting to get worried.
Dumb is good. I'm happiest when I'm being dumb.

It felt great, though, when I'd sorted it.

I won't admit to anything..........
But on the GMT I have learned to always set the 24 hour hand minutes and seconds first. The date, using the Mercedes hand second. And last, the local time with the Mercedes hand.

Thanks to everyone for the tips as well as the sympathy. Just one of those mornings where you stare at something knowing that you're doing something wrong, because this isn't the first time this would have happened in 55 years of production and someone might have figured it out before... Oh well, I learned something new - always a good way to start the day!

Heck, I do that every day. Right foot, left foot. Sometimes it does get too confusing. A blonde moment for sure.

I don't know which was funniest. Your question. Or Mandrake's solution. Thank you for a laughter filled end to my day.

Alternatively, you may firstly set all four arms to noon and then proceed to set the correct time.............as my AD told me when I bring my first Rolex home.
