Whoops - my Daytona minor mishap
Whoops! Not an hour after I posted this in today's WRUW,...
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?p=5791610 I was going to get a lap time because T&S lost its feed to Race Monitor. Unscrew the top pusher, then the bottom one and... Then this happens - - A closer look... So lucky for me that I was unscrewing the pushers while seated and the parts fell right into my lap. A quick reassembly for the rest of the day and no worries. But tomorrow it goes to the watchmaker's shop for a quick (I hope) fix. Anyone had this type of close call? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nope but good luck - shouldn't be a big deal to repair

What races you watching? Can't wait for next F1 race, hopefully Ferrari is back on podium again.

Whoops - my Daytona minor mishap
That's a bit of bad luck, however at least you have the cap piece, I think it likely can be fixed all the best with it . Keep us informed.

That sucks ! At least you have the parts. I have a feeling that it would have to remove the movement in order to fix it according to this video.

Exactly - did the restoration floor of the Museum since it's only open a couple of times a year. Even got to mill on a 4 axis Haas! Need a lightened hub? I should have known when it didn't stop turning after two turns of the cap. The "backup" will be with me at today's GTG in ATL. Then tomorrow, the Mitty!

Thanks - purely dumb luck but grateful. At the track I leave the pushers unscrewed since don't want to fiddle if I want to put a quick look on a particularly interesting lap. The iPhone Time App is a great one for accuracy but it takes time to pull it out and activate. Here's where a Daytona excels - just a quick flick of the pusher and you're timing.

I hope it's just a missing dab of loctite -

I was there primarily for Pirelli World Challenge and IndyCar. But also to see a young hotshot in USF2000 who I helped with his first shot in Formula Atlantic last weekend at VIR. I've got to say it's an odd feeling helping 14-15y.o.'s with a 180+mph open wheel car. Sure is a new racing world today.

Yep it is rare as the internal part of the pusher is locked in with another threaded piece. Just got to the watchmaker and its a quick fix. About $50 as some have said. He could do it while I wait but on my way to a GTG so will pick it up early next week. BTW he told me it was extremely lucky I didn't lose the cap. Rolex doesn't just send out replacements willy-nilly - they want the old part of its perished. And if it's missing, even certified watchmaker's with parts account are asked to send the whole watch into RSC to be sure nothing funny is going on. Thanks to all and I'll post an update when I get it back next week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So I just picked up the MOP Daytona from the watchmaker. The diagnosis: a tiny bit of missing loctite during the last overhaul let the pusher screw eventually come all the way out.
I use the chrono function a few times a week during race season but had no prior problems. I bought this from a great TRG seller and it had been serviced within the past 2 years by a respected watchmaker (not mine; was the prior owner's watchmaker). Fast fix to reassemble and apply the right thread locker for a reasonable $50 fee. I think I was very fortunate to have caught the small pusher crown and its tiny spring in a crease of my pants.
