G Shock
So I have had my eyes on a Breitling Superocean 42 for some time now, and was about to pull the trigger. I recently found out I will be moving to Chicago in September so I will be in the market for a new home. Also looking at buying a new car, and have a new baby at home. Anyway to get to the point I don't need to be spending thousands of dollars on a weekend/beater watch and decided a G Shock might hold me over until I can get the SO42. I know they have a huge following, but have not owned one. Anyone have one they recommend?

What kind of functionality are you looking for?
My favorites are (1) GW5000, atomic solar with DLC stainless steel core case, high quality rubber all around, classic square case style. Feels like a high quality watch, made in Japan. :) (2) GW6900, very good list of functionality, atomic solar, classic style, not expensive to own. :) (3) GWA1100, all analog hands, atomic solar, compass + 120 min fly-back chrono, sapphire crystal, its huge. :) (4) GW9400 Rangeman, triple sensor, atomic solar, functional, and big. (5) not a g-shock, but PRW6000 pathfinder is great. triple sensor, analog/digital, carbon fiber strap, low profile (for a triple sensor watch). PRW3000 is great as well and worth a look. The great things about them are they are cheaper to collect than Rolex. LOL

I have a G-SHOCK G1400D-1A that I picked up in Saigon of all places. Put my Explorer in the hotel safe so we could explore off the beaten path, and immediately missed having a watch.
Anyway, I like it a lot having worn it sporadically over the last couple weeks. It is an all analog display, with perpetual calendar, GMT, second time zone display, chrono, and alarm. Looks like you can beat the snot out of it and it will look brand new. One cool feature I just found in the manual is that if one or all of the hands get knocked out of position, you can fine-adjust their position so that everything lines up. |

I would get a model that is solar powered and that synchs to the time (usually labled 'tough solar' along with 'multiband' followed by a number. I only wear 2 watches, my sub and my G-Shock (GW-7900B). Casio makes a great, rugged watch.
