FS: 1982 GMT Master Pepsi Ref: 16750

I am selling my GMT Master that I purchased new in 1982. The low price ($676) shown in the photo of the original invoice is because I traded another watch in on this one. I paid extra for the band with the divers clasp, which is also seen on the receipt. Watch comes with everything shown in the photo. There is no box.

I purchased this GMT, to use as a tool in my activities as an international delivery pilot of private aircraft and as a reliable timepiece for celestial navigation while on a nine year sailing trip from New Zealand to California. Remember, those were pre-GPS days. Although I love the way the watch looks, it is way too large for my small wrists, so it didn’t get worn very much. I purchased an Explorer which suited me much better, so the GMT lived in the chart table. The lack of slack in the bracelet, which is reflected in the photos show how tight the links are.

In the spring of 2013, I decided to sell the watch and sent it to Bob Ridley of Arlington Texas for his evaluation. He recommended I have it serviced. I decided against that, for two reasons. First one was economic. Secondly, I thought the new owner might prefer using someone other than Bob for the service. I explained this to Bob and he suggested I have him install a new crystal, do a slight refresh of the outside metal, and straighten a slightly bent clasp lock. He did this and the watch looks great. I haven’t worn it since it came back from him. The $365 he charged for that work will help take the bite out of the service when it is done by the new owner. Also on his invoice is the charge of $65 for the photos he took of the watch. He gave me permission to use his photos in my ad when I put it up for sale. It’s pretty easy to identify his photos as compared to mine, so I won’t label them.

Next, Bob Ridley’s evaluation:

Integrity is good
No authenticity concerns.
Well aged bracelet
Matt dial
Lugs in good shape
2075 movement, no oxidation in movement, good shape
Original bezel, & inserts, aged nicely, no dings, Pepsi bezel
16750
May have new hour, minute, second hand. 24 hour hand original

I’m not sure about those hands. If they were changed it would have been done at the Rolex service center. I sent it to Rolex twice for service but only have the one record. The other times I had it serviced, that was done as needed by various Rolex dealers wherever I was around the world.

One more thing. The hands are very nice, but not perfect, but Bob Ridley can repair them to like new condition. At the same time I sent my GMT to him for evaluation, I sent my Explorer in for service. The hands on that watch were of similar condition and he did a masterful job repairing them.

I have more photos if you require them.

I live in the St Louis MO area and will be willing to travel a reasonable distance to complete the sale. For security reasons I will only meet in a safe place that we both agree on. Otherwise I can ship it anywhere in the 50 United States. Buyer pays for shipping method of his choice. Payment via USPS Money Order or cash if face to face. I am not a dealer, so when I receive payment and send it out the deal is done. No return.

The price I’ve put on this watch is not based on any knowledge I have of Rolex watch values. It's a wild guess. If my price too low, it’ll sell quickly, and someone will have gotten a good deal. if my price is too high, it won't sell quickly, and I’ll start lowering the price until someone does buy it.

If you want to check my feedback on other online sales sites, I have been using the same user name (wingwlkr) on eBay, and HKPRO for many years.

Price $6300.00
