As someone mentioned above, buy the seller. There are reputable jewelers/watch stores that sell on ebay. There are even some ADs that sell pre-owned watches on ebay. So I wouldn't make a blanket statement to not buy an expensive item on ebay.
In fact I purchased my first Rolex on ebay from a large pre-owned watch store that even DavidSW has vouched for. This was at a time when DavidSW and other trusted sellers had not yet established the reputation they have developed today. I have since purchased my Rolex watches from ADs, but that is because I have developed a relationship with an AD over time and they were willing to negotiate with pricing. |
