If you're looking at mechanical watches, Rolex makes some of the more reliable, accurate and enduring pieces on the market. The SUB is just a great allrounder that works for many people, from communist leaders to supermodels.
If you start digging a bit, you might find other Rolex models that might suit you better, even other brands that have an interesting history. Start with http://www.hodinkee.com for a great read. That makes all of this an exiting but totally superfluous and "extravagant" part of life. |

Lots of reasons...The history behind the company for one. After you read all they've done, you'll be amazed. Also they are rugged and can take what life will throw at them. The feeling of personal accomplishment once you get one. They aren't cheap and it takes a bit of hard work to get one. Last but not least, for me, they look so damn sexy. And if you take care of it, they can be passed on for several generations. I have a watch (Longines) from the 50's that belonged to my grandfather. It's so cool for me when I have the opportunity to put it on and wear it knowing it was on his wrist 60 years ago. |

It's the watch that you can wear every single day of your life and not worry about, or it's the watch you can put in a safe and have it rise in value year after year. The Submariner is, in my belief, the quintessential timepiece for many. When my mind thinks of the word 'watch,' it is a Submariner I see." |

I just bought a 104060 because it is beautiful and lasts forever.
Just today, a female coworker just commented that it was a beautiful watch and asked what brand it was. She obviously does not know or care for watches too much but she does appreciate beauties! |
