When the new sm300 came out I was planning on flipping my smpc for one. However, after trying it on it was not for me. I liked my smpc a lot better and I prefer no date on my higher end watches right now because I do not wear them as much as I would like to. You already know that you like the Rolex, so try the Seamaster on. If it sings to you buy that one, if not then you know that the Rolex is the right choice.

Faux patina and PCLs vs. bloated case and blingy bezel. I say pick neither and go for a 14060M with a few NATOs.

The only classic Omega SM300 is the original vintage one, the co-axial movement is fussy and expensive to service.

On another post earlier.
It's ok to choose Omega.
It's never ok to choose Omega over Rolex.
Golden!

Smaller than you thought it would be? Great news for me!

Not true at all. You may want to check your facts.

If nato is the main driver, I'm with this guy. 5-digit sub and a handful of staps would be perfect. Imo the SubC looks best on the bracelet.

Try them both on and see how you feel!

Personally I'd take the 300 over the sub, because to me the subs case no longer looks right (to chubby now) and I prefer the 8500 movement in the omega. If rolex went back to a more classically proportioned case and put in the new movement... It would be a harder choice! 😉

I just don't understand the appeal of faux patina. It's like the jeans they sell that come pre-torn you've got to earn that stuff. Put in the time.

I don't really love it, either, but to play devil's advocate, the newer lumes don't patina like tritium did, so it's kinda now or never.

Faux patina is not something I would want. Plus in my opinion the sub looks way better. Omega is trying way too hard to be Rolex with the Bond product placement. Plus I don't trust the 8500 movement long term.

To be fair, the new Seamaster looks more like its 1957 original than the current Sub does. As far as movement, the 8500 is quite an achievement, and it has proven reliable over the last 8 years.

Original Seamster from 1957:

I wouldn't buy either of these watches, but the current Sub turns me off so much that I might actually pick the Seamaster, if forced, since it is truer to the original and has an arguably better movement. The current Sub actually reminds me off something Omega would do, in terms of making it flashier and bulkier, which goes against the ethos of the watch, IMO.

If we're talking pre-ceramic Subs, though, it's an easy choice.
