why doesn't the deep sea dweller have a cyclops on the date?

is it because under high pressure cyclopes crack?

Why don't you reply to Padi's response before posting anymore threads

True, but I'd really love to see a day-date/submariner

Well sort of correct at that sort of depth pressure the stuck on Cyclops would just blow off anyway. That why the SD has the one way valve, when in a helium gas environment at pressure. The helium breathing gas molecules are that small they can pass though the crystal and seals and under cyclops. And if the helium gas build up could not escape though the HEV valve when the saturation diver was returning to normal atmospheric surface pressure via the re-compression chamber. The build up of the now expanded pressurised helium and air breathing gas,the extra pressure inside would just blow the Crystal right out of the case.

The cyclops has no pressure differential, like for example the crystal has (waterptressure to pressure inside the watch).

The cyclops would only see water pressure that tries to compress the cyclops itself. However I believe the material (acrylic?) will crack much after the diver ...

The pressure would be so high that the cyclops, which is not made of sapphire crystal, would be squashed flat and wouldn't magnify anyway.

(I made that up, I don't actually know. Maybe because the date complication isn't all that important on a watch actually intended for use by divers. Divers at deep depths don't need to be able to read the date easily. But many Subs are used by non-divers, so it is relatively more important on that watch.)

I always thought that, due to depth rating, it catered to a diving purpose first. In that capacity at depth, the date really is of no importance.

The reason for the lack of Cyclops on the SD and DSSD is due to the fact that it is acrylic and also because it is glued to the crystal. The acrylic would crack at the pressure rating of the watch, and the glue will not hold up to the escapement of helium in a pressurized diving bell for saturation diving.

The helium escape feature is for divers who spend a lot of time in a special chamber kept at dive pressure (saturation divers). They might go out in the water once or twice a day, then back to the chamber. They would be in there for days or weeks, so the date feature would be a handy way of keeping track of their stay.
