Put away your pitchforks, I am being facetious. Picked up this unfinished turd of a product yesterday, just to see what the fuss was all about. And it is just that - fuss. Based on nothing. The watch feels unfinished, the bracelet (Milanese loop) is flimsy, interface is so-so.... But hey, it can have Mickey Mouse show you the time, so all is well.
When the Apple Watch was announced, many said that this will deal a heavy blow to Swiss watch industry. Clearly, those people don't understand the difference between a communications device and an heirloom.

Definitely not going to do any damage to the high end swiss watch industry, but no need to belittle the Apple watch either. It is a definite step forward in wearable technology and can be very helpful in day to day productivity and convenience.

I don't have an Apple watch and based on all the unfavorable reports I'm reading, I don't see myself getting one either. Rapid battery drain seems to be a common complaint.

I decided this was much more in keeping with my style and took it off his hands for a very good price.

I bought my son an Apple watch in part as he is 16 and just getting into watches (great starter) and also as I too wanted to see what all the fuss is about.

I own Rolex, PP and AP but I like the Apple watch and will likely get one as there is no doubt they are pretty cool and great for excersize. Lots of reviews I have read suggest they are very good but there are a lot on here who give it a bashing in the strange belief that they are historical defenders of the "real" watch.
Haters gonna hate - no one should feel threatened by it or take it as a personal affront. We like real watches great but to dismiss the Apple product as junk, BS, laughable etc etc is unfair. Lots of people might think the same of our/your watches - who really cares. This apple watch deserves as much page time as others and if one doesn't like it the best action is more often to say nothing and then no one gets insulted.

I don't even consider these toys to be watches. They're basically iPod Nanos strapped to wrists. I can argue that mechanical watches are more than just watches. They're art, something that a mass, mass produced Chinese piece of tech will never be.

Maybe when they can do what my Nexus 6 can, I will be remotely interested in it as useful gadget, but no mass produced smartwatch will ever be art. I limit myself to only a few kinds of disposable tech that become obsolete in 5-10 years: essentials like computers, monitors/ TVs, appliances, and phones. Of all these, none would be classified as a toy for my usages. Basically, I wouldn't pay good money for a toy that's worthless in 5 years.

Perhaps one reason why some ardent detractors of smartwatches speak out is because zealots from the other side keep proclaiming them to be something that they're not, a luxury wristwatch competitor. One of my buddies insists that Apple's smartwatch will overtake an established giant like Rolex in revenue and will take a big bite out of the Swiss watch industry. That's pure ignorance. No sane person is selling all of his Pateks and Rolexes to collect smartwatches, and whoever is forever giving up his plans to get a Calatrava in favour of a smartwatch wanted the Patek for the wrong reasons. They serve entirely different functions.

Some of these smartwatch apologists were around during the digital revolution? A Timex that has a digital display, timer, calendar, heart rate monitor, pedometer, alarm, AND built in flashlight! Surely, Rolex and Patek were doomed in 1980 .

Smart watch has much more potential than a Timex or Casio, they are practically two different products. Things you can do with your cellphones now, 10 years ago nobody would believe you.

As for Apple overtaking Rolex in revenue, if the sales goes well, Apple might just do it this year. One analyst already downgraded his projections for this year to 10M Apple watches, but at an average of 500 dollar a pop, that's still 5B in revenue. How many Swiss watch company you think that does 5B a year?

People are so spoiled by Apple's success that anything less than a home run looks like a failure. But the reality is, even if Apple watch don't sell well, it is still taking a big chunk of business out of the watch industry.
