Gerald Genta penned the AP RO design in 1971/72 – that's over 40 years ago, during which time it has evolved to what it is now.
He was also responsible for the Nautilus and IWC's Ingenieur designs – which mimic his original design for AP.

For some people, the shape/style of the case and/or bracelet doesn't appeal to them – and that's perfectly fine.
There is no right or wrong opinion, especially when it comes to aesthetics – you either like it or you don't.

Means they will look good in 100 years. What is "boxy to you"?
