So I recently sold an omega on eBay. The buyer stated it was a gift and gave me the address to send the watch too (my first mistake, I know I should had only sent it to PayPal verified address) I shipped the watch with insurance/signature confirmation required. The watch got to the address but no one was able to sign for it, several redilivered attempts were made and then as of 3 days ago, the tracking number stopped progressing. Then out of the blue, PayPal awards the buyer a full refund without my knowledge. So now I'm out the cash and the watch. I'm going to try my hardest to figure it out with the post office in the hopes they can stop the delivery of the package and send it back. I did some digging on the "buyer" and found he is a 56 year old priest in WI, I called him and we spoke. Supposedly he feels his identity was stolen because he didn't make the purchases. Well I ran a background check and he used to live in Philadelphia, the same town that the eBay buyer requested I ship the watch too as a gift for someone. It all seems fishy and now I'm afraid I'm out the cash and my omega. Any advice?

Don't respond to the Nigeria dudes offering you 500,000k for a measly $7500 down payment....

Haha I wonder who falls for crap like that. When I used to rent, I searched renting websites for decent apartments and at least once a day I got an email form a "homeowner" who would say something along the lines of "I'm in Nigeria on a rescue mission for poor children, I'm not sure how long I will be so I'm looking to find someone to rent my house and take care of it while I'm gone. You can drive by and see the property but in order to be taken inside the reality company requires a security deposit" blah blah blah it's a bunch of Bologna. I'm usually good at catching scams but this one caught me off guard

I don't quite get the part 'several redilivered attempts were made and then as of 3 days ago, the tracking number stopped progressing'. Is the item still with the post office or someone has signed it off? If it is the latter, then there should be a scanned copy of proof of delivery which can be obtained from the post office. This is what I can get from my country. You can show paypal the proof of delivery and the correspondence between you and the buyer on the requested delivery address and there is no reason paypal will not award in your favour.

If you did not ship to verified address shown in PayPal no seller protection applies. Pretty harsh, but it's in the policy as far as I know, I wish you the best of luck. Start by getting copy of delivery etc the matter is one of fraud and the police may need to come into play IMHO.

Sorry I have not updated the situation but it's pretty interesting. So I found the contact information for the supposed "buyer". I gave him a call to see what's going on and he had no idea a watch was purchased in his name. We had a long conversation and it was determined that his identity must be compromised because there were multiple purchases on his credit card that he was not aware of. I immediately contacted USPS to find out what's going on with the package and here is where things get cooky. The mailman refused to deliver the package because the recipients ID did not match the package. The crook then got furious and verbally assualted the mailman (all this was told to me when I contacted the post office directly) so the crook attempted to go online and schedule redilivered multiple times but the post office did not release the package because they had a feeling something was wrong. I was very happy to learn that the manager of the post office had the package on his desk and once we spoke it was concluded that the package was going to be shipped back!!!!! So tomorrow I will get my omega back. Lesson learned, never ship to a different address, and stay away from selling on eBay because they are very one sided towards the buyer. Definitely! I'd call the manager you spoke with and ask him for the mailing address and information of the person he reports to. Then send a well-written thank-you letter about the employees involved. These go a long way in many circumstances and most employees will happily give up their supervisors information if they know a letter of commendation is coming.
