Is it worth buying a second hand Rolex?
Hi all... in your opinons do you think its worth buying a 2nd hand Rolex? Ive seen a 16613 for £3100 and its 5 years old. To buy it new it costs £4770. Are 2nd hand rolex just as good as new ones?.
Thanks |

No problem at all going used AS LONG AS your know it's real. These watches last a loooonnggg time. Send it into the RSC if it wasn't been serviced recently and it will be like new and look like new when it comes back.

When you are purchasing second hand Rolexes, also consider the purchase price along with the expected ball park figure of servicing the watch.
From the outside it may look good, but the movement may require more $$ to get fixed.

Agreed. Normal price of having it serviced would be around ££ 250, btw.

I have purchased 2 one-owner Rolex' from members of this forum. They have been great purchases, and I would recommend looking here first.
In my case, I prefered the (slightly) used look to them, as well as the price, but others may prefer a more mint look to them with the money that they are paying. greg |

I recently bought a six year old Rolex that the AD had sent to RSC, it looks brand new, and was £700 cheaper than MSRP, and I am very pleased with the deal.
If you are buying from an AD see if they will arrange a RSC service as part of the deal, if not an AD be sure the seller is trustworthy and factor cost of service at RSC. |

I bought my first Rolex straight from an AD. However, for my next Rolex, I will be purchasing used.

The short answer...Yes! As long as you are careful, know your Rolex facts, and ask a lot of questions of the seller. ALL of mine are previously owned (Pre-loved, as one of our members calls it) - take a look.

On the other hand...there is nothing like owning a new one and being the first.

Can't recall the year the transition took place, help me out guys (chardonnay), but the gold running through the clasp / SEL would be a must-have if i was buying an older 11613 right now.

The gold through the clasp started in 2001 on the TT Blue Subs. I got mine in 2000 and it was the last batch with the all steel (which I prefer).

I would go to Grays antique market in Central London near Oxford Circus - Oxford and Davies street (Bond street Tube station), between 11 am to 2pm and ask around who is selling a nice 16613. Grey dealers frequent this place, downstairs for coffee or through the hallways of Grays you should not have to pay more than 2700-2800 pounds for a five year old Sub or 3700-3800 for a new one. |

I purchased my first Rolex, a President, for $6k. It was in mint condition w/a mop dial. I could never afford to buy this watch new. Hey, the watch is new to me.

Since I've already boughten two new Rolexes from ADs, I think my next purchase will be pre-loved. Just got to make sure I buy the seller and not just the watch.

Yes Pre-Owned is fine, however be cautious to whether the watch is genuine and not a countierfiet...
I love new Rolexes but it is just down to your personal preferences. |

Pre owned is fine just follow these rules of thumb
1) Buy the seller not just the watch 2) Check that it is authentic as best you can, if its a private seller, see if they will meet you at an AD to complete transaction. 3) Any doubts just walk away 4) If you've got a mobile ring bexley and ask for the serial number to be checked against their records. They will give you a description of the watch and whether it has been in for servicing or on the lost or stolen register. Consider David Duggan or Watches of Bond street, or even Watches of Switzerland Pre-owned selection. or the internet www.dream-watches.co.uk I purchased this from WOS came with 1 year WOS warranty and 1 year Rolex service warranty
