Icon5 Euro Hotel: Pay Now or Later?

We're planning to stay in Sorrento, Italy for seven nights from mid October. If I pay in advance now I can get a 10% discount, but I'm thinking if I pay on checkout (October 22), there's a good chance the Euro might have dropped that much anyway against the Hong Kong dollar (which is linked to the US$) What would you do? Has the Euro bottomed out already? Pay now or pay later?

Thanks,
Adam.

I agree with Mon to pay later. I hope you have a great time. Any ideas which watch you will bring? That's the most important part of the trip you need to be organising

Thanks, yes probably the best advice. Not sure which watch yet....maybe the THC for the timezone bezel. And the Black Bay. Ranger for the missus, and the vintage cocktail watch for smart dinners.

Hope so, it's two flights and a one hour bus from HK, but Bay of Naples has been on the bucket list for years.

Currency traders who spend 10 hours a day studyng the markets can't always guess where the Euro will be in 60 days, so don't bother...pay later to give yourself flexibility.

What's the cancellation policy? If you can get fully refunded, might as well pay now. I imagine 10% over 7 nights is a pretty decent sum.

You lose the first night if you cancel. It's not a huge amount. About 1,200 euro for 7 nights in a seaview terrace room.

We spent our honeymoon in the amalfi coast nine years ago, it truly is beautiful.....and very expensive. I remember two cappuccinos in Capri cost me 19 euros nine years ago.

save 120 euros now, but risk losing about 150 euros if you cancel. i guess it depends on how definite your plans are.

if as definite as they could be, i'd take the 120 euro savings and apply that towards a nice dinner.

That was my original thought...but the euro has been diving against the dollar since we were last in Italy in December. Might be cheaper to hold off. Either way, no big deal I guess...looking forward to heading back to Europe again

As mentioned Sorrento, Capri, and the Amalfi coast are lovely but avoid Naples.

Been burnt too may times paying ahead, just pay on the day now.

Hard to think the Euro would fall 10% or more in 2 months time.

Seems like the Eurozone is somewhat stable now again when Greece got their funding. Well... until next time.

Paying in advance for hotels or car rentals is a bad idea. If you get delayed, you can lose or room and your money. Read the fine print before taking that leap of faith

Adam, I'd pay later as well. The drop in currency between now and then wouldn't amount to anything significant. My feeling is that most of the bleeding has stopped.

These! The Euro will not drop much more if at all, you'll be talking two down(good) and around 5-10 up(bad) in the weeks/months ahead I predict.
