Now to me, buying a modern piece without papers opens up many doors that I don't want to open, it's just not worth it. So you ask if this hurts the value, in my book it does quite a bit.

The above is the reason why a lot of guys want a full set when buying a used/gray Rolex watch. It gives you that warm fuzzy feeling that the watch is authentic and isnt a stolen watch.
