Gold in every Rolex?

Was just thinking about this. (Just goes to show what watch people think of in their spare time.)

But is there any current production model Rolex out there that does not have some gold in it?

Even the SS Subs and platinum DD's have some gold in the indicies or hands.

Can anyone think of a current production Rolex watch that is gold free?

If they all have some gold in the watch, I think that is pretty cool. A touch, sprinkle, dab, or however you want to put it, of Gold in every Rolex.

Pretty cool!

Good question, I thought they all had gold indices, but what do I know.

Nope. The AK has white gold hands. Mine has WG stick markers and a WG Rolex coronet at the 12 o'clock position.

What about the indices and hands on Cellini models? Does anybody know if they are made of gold too? Like for example the Cellini Cellinium model which is constructed with a platinum case.

Good thinking!

I would agree that ALL current Rolex models indeed do have some gold in them - as you state: hands and indices.

Some of the older Rolex watches had STEEL hands (and non trimmed indices on Subs) that could corrode. That's probably the reason for the intro of YG/WG hands and indices.

I would've thought that the Platinum range had Platinum hands and indices.

Could actually very well be the case, John!

PT has its own very special hue to its colour that is different from WG. So PT hands and indices would indeed make sense.

At least the SS/PT YM has a solid Platinum dial ("PT 950" hallmark on the underside) - although you can't see it due to the dial being rough in texture.

Hmmm, anyone out there know if Rolex puts platinum hands and markers in some of their watches?
