The easiest way to save money is to exercise, have meals at home, watch TV, surf the net to look at watches

Saving for a Rolex, or anything else that is a goal can be done through constant, consistent and concentrated decision making. And yes, sacrifices.
Every time, as in EVERY TIME you incur an expense, pause and consider your goal then decide to make a sacrifice fort he goal. If you goal is important enough and your dedication to it sincere enough it can be done. Giving up the immediate for the future takes discipline. Yes, there is always the risk, in extremes, of squandering the present; life is about balances. You may be going out much less. Cooling and cooking at home more. Delaying, defraying or avoiding other purchases. How important is that Rolex to you? Do you want to sacrifice a social life for it? Subway instead of cab? Less of a car? Not updating a wardrobe? Cigarettes, cigars, chewing gum? Lao Tzu said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” He lived in the 6th century BC. Captain SALTY, in the 21st century AD says, A journey of great length and a destination far away can be achieved by taking a step - and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another and another ...

Below is advice for your average middle class Joe. I know some pretty average guys who spend $20K or more a year on hunting and they do it by making hunting a priority and following the prescription below.
1) Eat at home 2) Drink at home 3) Don't buy coffee at coffeeshops....make your own at work! For me that used to be a $5-10 a day habit. Put that in a jar at home and it adds up quickly! 4) Drive the same old car into the ground after it's paid for. Repairs are generally cheaper than car payments in the intermediate term. 5) Netflix is cheaper than going out to movies and buying popcorn and other crap. 6) Buy durable and often expensive shoes/clothes and then wear them 'til they fall apart. Sometimes there is nothing more expensive than something that's cheap. That said, if Walmart is running a sale on Khakis or Polo shirts, buy them by the dozen. :) 7) If you have a serious jones to spend, buy gold/silver/platinum and stash it as a savings vehicle. 8) Put money that you are worried you might spend into short term 1-2 year time deposit. 9) Stash cash in a home safe in $100 denominations. I find I am reluctant to break 100s. 10) As an extreme measure, ditch the McMansion and downsize your life to a smaller home/condo in a better area. 11) Ebay the surplus crap you have been collecting in the garage! 12) If married, get your spouse on board! Make a deal that, if both of you make the sacifices, you split the savings and buy TWO Rolexes when all is said and done. Combine these things and, depending on your income, I'll bet you have the watch inside of a year or two. |
