Would you like to track multiple time zones?

I think the 16710 is a little bit more comfortable for daily wear. But that's just me.

It would have to be the GMT from my perspective a much more versatile and comfortable watch.

There is not a wrong choice here, but I would tend to look at this pragmatically. Do you spend more time traveling across time zones (or needing to know the time of day in multiple locations), or do you spend more time in/on the water?
Let the answer to that simple question be your guide. |

GMT can time things for up to an hour so the submariner complication sorta exists on there without the lume dot and the depth rating. So unless you want to go 1000 feet deep, GMT.

If only one watch, the classic GMT, harder to find good one with time and its price keeps going up .
You always can buy another Sub later . Trusting us here, you will |

I would go GMT. And then add a ceramic sub down the line.

Both are great watches, but for me the extra complication of the GMT is the difference maker. I find the difference in thickness between a 16710 and 16610 a non-factor and both wear equally comfortably. Get the one that sings to you!
WR for 99% of Rolex owners may only matter if you drop your watch to the bottom of the ocean floor. FWIW, I've been diving and swimming in the ocean multiple times with my GMT, while my Sub has never even seen the ocean |

Prefer the GMT due to the 24 hour hand. The Explorer II is a GMT with a fixed stainless bezel.

GMT hands down:
And for those times you wish you went with a Sub, just pop in a black bezel:
