Maybe you got a 1601, great watch and a bona fide vintage. It would have no quick set date and a slower beat movement. Yes, there is so much to learn in vintage. I'm just a novice. Nope, mine's not a pie pan dial...it's a flat dial and definitely a 16014, with quick-set date and beating at 4 Hz.

'85 eh, so probably a later/newer version dial then.

Hahaha, I wouldn't dare go over to the vintage forum...that would REALLY open a big can of worms! ;)

I love the older DJs too; here's my 16013 to wish yours well...

Yeah, Rolex did subtle dial changes all the time. Even the current SS Daytona has had 3 to 4 different dials with small variations over the years. Makes vintage collecting more 'interesting'...

Red 1680 Sub for you next. ;)

Had the piece for almost a week and it is surprising accurate...gains a couple seconds face up at night and losses a couple when worn in the morning, evens out perfectly to a +/-0.0 seconds a day average!

Can't be happier right now. :-)

Good choice. The 16014 is a truly clean looking classic.
I had a slate grey dial one.

Actually haven't had a chance to work on the bracelet yet...my shabby screwdrivers chipped on me so I have a set of Bergeons coming in. I'll see if I'll have better luck with the Bergeons with the bracelet heated and update.

Spoonage: wearing any one piece often proves to be more difficult than I would have thought. It's not a big collection but some pieces are not getting any wrist time at all as it is.

Coincidently I have a 75190 from 1992 that I bought new...when it only costed usd1k

Thanks!

It's a 75090 36mm black Sub and it's my first Tudor. By today's standard it's a smaller watch but it still wears very nicely actually on my smaller 6" wrist.

While I'm waiting to remedy the bracelet issue I'm wearing it on a "cheapo" replacement Jubilee, not too shabby but ultimately not a permanent solution for sure.

Anyone know if RSC might still have the Jubilee bracelet available for sale? Approx cost idea? I might consider it if the original that came with the watch can't be resized properly.

Had some time to kill tonight so I thought I'd try to capture the beauty of the Datejust. I don't think I quite did it but it was worth a shot...

Beautiful pics! You certainly captured the subtle beauty of this watch. I know what you mean, it's a hard one to capture compared to how it looks in person.

Right, the highest selling Rolex is under appreciated; make sense to me.

Here's another vintage watch of mine, from 1972; that was the year I decided to switch from creative writing to science for a life pursuit.

What I beautiful find Richard.
I am going backwards as well, looking for a 36mm DJ in silver. Too classy a watch.
Where did you pickup the Jubliee bracelet?

BTW Richard have you ever lived in Canada?

It just seems, lately, folks tend to go for the larger sports models, nothing wrong with that, and the classic 36mm, seems to take a bit of a back seat.

Here's my 36milli btw.
