I still disagree with you but have decided to agree to disagree.

This was what you posted before, I don't think you know that SBDB001 is, it sure is not 1500 pounds, and there's no SDDB001.

And in 2005 there's no GS diver, so you are saying at that time Seiko doesn't have a competitor against the Sub, which is not true. They had one, and it is called SBDB001, and MSRP was higher than the Sub.

You said GS diver and Sub are in the same price range so they are competitors, but when SBDB001 and Sub are in the same range, they are not? You use price as a factor when it suits your argument.

But whatever, old people are too stubborn to listen, and they never admit that they are wrong.

Tom vs. Dave debate aside, 2005 isn't a good base year to compare Rolex to a SBDB001. That's literally the year automatic Spring Drives debuted at Basel. It was a whole new type of movement, previously only seen in handwound Credors.

Now Spring Drives are produced in larger numbers and much more efficiently. The premium on them has rightfully decreased (relatively). Hi-Beat GS's still have great resale.

Tom…Dave…give it a bloody rest!
For a moment there, I thought I was on TZUK instead of TRF, with the daftest argument ever about Grand Seiko vs Rolex.
Who cares what price whatever model sold for 10 years ago? It’s ancient history!

The pictures really don't do the dials justice. Need to break out the Nikon and try to get some up close shots.

Literally nobody has the brand power of Rolex; to me it's a straw man argument to question why other watch companies don't behave like them. Rolex has also experienced a unique explosion in popularity in the past decade that resulted in doubled prices. There hasn't been a price increase in two and a half years in the US, so even Rolex isn't raising prices "every year."

Both companies charge what they can. Rolex is more popular so they charge more. That doesn't mean Seiko is doing anything wrong; they don't have to be more popular than Rolex to be successful. Regardless, I'd be surprised if Rolex prices double vs. Seiko again anytime soon.
I agree 100% a brand like Rolex is unlike any other brand in the world and as much as I like the Grand Seiko line the resale value does not hold up. And that's the only thing holding me back from buying one since I don't like keeping watch is more than 3 or 4 years.

Then buy used. I could flip my two GS's for what I paid any day of the week.
