I'm at 125 trip this year and never take it off. It sets off the alarm about 25% of the time and they check it. I've had some compliments including nice Invicta 😂 If I'm bringing two watches, ones on the wrist and the other is in the carry on. The wife has outlawed me from double wristing it. This is in 'Merica btw.

When I travel within the USA or an international flight originates in the USA I do not but I have TSA-Precheck.
If I didn't have TSA Pre-check, I would take it off and place it in my carry-on to avoid the occasional the over zealous agent who may want it taken off. Taking it off at the last minute and placing it in a plastic bin IMO is asking for it to get ripped off.

THAT and the chances of your watch taking an unnecessary beating as well.
